PREP TENNIS: Port Angeles sweeps Chimacum/PT

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders tennis boys remained in the top tier of the Olympic League with a 7-0 sweep over Chimacum/Port Townsend at home.

The match of the day was between Port Angeles’ Caleb Flodstrom and Chimacum/PT’s Roman Powell as Powell gave the Riders’ No. 1 singles’ player all he could handle. Powell won the first set 6-4 and then Flodstrom stormed back to win the second set 6-1.

Flodstrom finally prevailed in a close third set 7-5.

Port Angeles’ No. 2 Landon Seibel won his match without losing a point, while teammate Jacob Miller beat Roman Humphrey 6-0, 6-4.

The Riders doubles’ teams of Damon Gundersen/Michael Soule and Seth Woods/Tanner Price also won. The Port Angeles doubles teams Kam Noard/Ty Bradow and James Burkhardt/Henry Shaw won by default.

The win puts the Riders at 6-1 in league, behind 6-0 North Kitsap and essentially tied with 7-2 Bremerton. Port Angeles has a very busy week, making up some rainouts. The Riders were scheduled to play at Olympic (2-6) on Tuesday and next plays today at 3:30 p.m. at Sequim (4-3). On Thursday, they are scheduled to play for the fourth-straight day at home at 4 p.m. against Bremerton.

Meanwhile, Chimacum/Port Townsend is scheduled to play at home at 4 p.m. today against Olympic.
