PREP TENNIS: Port Angeles boys improve to 11-2

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles tennis team celebrated its nine seniors, then went out and defeated Bremerton 5-2.

Port Angeles rode the strength of its doubles teams, sweeping all four matches while improving to 11-2 on the season.

The doubles teams of Luke Flodstrom/Nathan Basden, Austin Worthington/Keatyn Hoch, Carter Gundersen/Zach Neff and Carston Seibel/Grant Butterworth all won in straight sets. Also winning in straight sets was No. 3 singles player Garrett Buerer.

No. 2 singles player Sky Gelder had a hard-fought loss, falling to Bremerton’s Eli Garner in two tiebreakers 3-6, 7-6, 7-6.

Playing well in a losing effort was No. 1 singles player Tate Alton, according to coach Brian Gundersen. Alton was matched up against Joseph Cao, who went to the State tournament a year ago.

“Tate played a great match against a very experienced, talented player in Cao,” coach Brian Gundersen said.

The seniors graduating from the program are Tate Alton, Garret Buerer, Nathan Basden, Luke Flodstrom, Keatyn Hoch, Austin Worthington, Carter Gundersen, Zach Neff and Kaleb Lightner. The Riders complete their season today at Kingston (1-7), looking to lock up second place in the Olympic League.
