PREP SWIMMING: WIAA announces local swimmers invited to state meet

FEDERAL WAY — The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association has released the list of North Olympic Peninsula swimmers and divers who will compete at the 2019 girls state swim and dive championships this weekend at the King County Aquatic Center.

The Roughriders will have six swimmers competing individually and two relay teams. Sequim will have one swimmer competing individually and two relay teams and Port Townsend, despite being one of the smallest schools at the 2A state meet, qualified two relay teams.

The state decided Monday on all the qualifiers, including swimmers and divers who posted qualifying times or scores earlier in the season, competitors who qualified through their finishes at district and then wild card allocations from around the state to fill out all the slots in each event.

The state swim meet will begin Friday with preliminary races. Finals will be held Saturday.

The Roughriders finished fifth at the West Central District III meet, while Sequim finished eighth. The Redhawks finished 10th.

• Port Angeles swimmers qualifying include:

Mackenzie DuBois, 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.

Kenzie Johnson, 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Sage Hunter, 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Felicia Che, 200 individual medley, 100 freestyle.

Kiara Schmitt, 50 freestyle.

Emma Murray, 50 freestyle.

Anne Edwards, diving.

200 medley relay team, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.

• Sequim qualifiers include:

Mia Coffman, 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.

400 freestyle relay team.

• Port Townsend swimmers include:

200 medley relay team and 200 freestyle relay team.
