PREP SWIMMING: Sequim wins Bremerton meet in final event

400 free relay team lifts Sequim to win

SEQUIM — Sequim’s Olympic League girls home swim meet with Bremerton was decided in the final event with the Wolves triumphing Wednesday at the Sequim YMCA.

“It was an exciting back-to-back meet for the duration, but we pulled out a win 77-70,” Sequim coach Sarah Thorson said. “It truly came down to the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. We went into the final event down by three points.”

The relay squad of Melia Nelson, Natalie Cross, Ava Shinkle and Annie Ellefson rolled to a time of four minutes, 19.61 seconds in the 400 free relay, with teammates Keira Morey, Naomi Begiyakov, Violet Phillips and Addison Long earning second in 5:28.8, more than 20 seconds ahead of third-place Bremerton.

Ellefson, Shinkle

“Our girls continued to swim great with some personal bests and district-qualifying times for Annie Ellefson in the 100 breaststroke and Ava Shinkle in the 200 individual medley,” Thorson said.

“Our current district qualifiers include: Nelson, Cross, Shinkle and Ellefson, with all four qualifying in more than one event.”

Sequim (2-0, 3-0) will host Port Angeles (3-1) on Wednesday.
