PREP SWIMMING: Sequim girls third at Swimvitational

OLYMPIC — The Sequim girls participated in the Olympic Swimvitational on Saturday, finishing third out of the nine teams.

The Wolves took eight girls to the event, the maximum they were allowed.

Highlights include:

• Sydney Swanson dropped one second in her 100 breaststroke with a district time of 1 minute, 19.11 seconds, placing third out of 20 swimmers who competed in that event.

• The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Lauren Sundin, Natalie George, Francesca Bargis and Mia Coffman dropped four seconds from its previous time, taking third overall with a time of 4:19.25.

• The 200 medley relay team (Bargis, George, Swanson and Sundin) dropped more than a second on its previous time, placing fifth with a time of 2:12.02.

• Eislynn Flood dropped more than one second in her 50 freestyle with a time of 31.01 and dropped more than 11 seconds in her 500 freestyle with a district-qualifying time of 6:36.45.

• Morgan Cariou dropped 57 seconds in her 500 freestyle time from earlier this season (7:21.83) and also dropped more than 16 seconds in her 200 IM (3:03.23).

• Sundin dropped one second in her 100 butterfly (1:17.97).

• George dropped one second in her 100 freestyle (1:05.30), and two seconds in her 100 backstroke (1:18.25).

“Overall the girls swam great. Currently, SHS girls swimming is ranked third in the Olympic League [with a 4-2 record] and has many events slotted to attend the district meet and one swimmer — Coffman — already making a fast-enough time to compete at the state championship meet,” said coach Sarah Thorson.

The Wolves’ next meet will be their final league meet at Bremerton on Thursday.
