PREP SWIMMING: Port Angeles third at districts; Sequim’s Prosser makes state

RENTON — Port Angeles finished third at the West Central District boys swimming and diving Championships at Lindbergh High School on Saturday.

State qualifiers for the Roughriders include the 200-yard medley relay team of John Macias, Jay Liang, Wei-Yan Fu and Tristin Butler, which finished third in one minute and 49.23 seconds.

Macias won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:01.45, with Sequim’s only state qualifier, Eric Prosser, taking fifth in 2:17.07, and Butler sixth in 2:19.20.

Macias finished third in the 100 backstroke in 57.21 and will be joined in that event at the state meet by Prosser who was fourth with a time of 1:02.24 and Riders teammate Cole Urnes who placed sixth in 1:04.7.

Fu was third in the 100 butterfly in 57.36 and fifth in the 50 freestyle in 24.35.

Butler was third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:20.29 while his teammate and classmate, freshman Karsten Hertzog, was sixth in 5:51.05.

Port Angeles divers Scott Methner, Colton Olson and Agustin Miller all advanced to the state meet after finishing eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.

Crescent swimmer Patrick Singhose missed out on state after placing 10th in the 200 individual medley and 12th in the 500 free in 6:13.87.

Sequim’s Markus Petersen also will miss state after finishing 16th in the 100 backstroke in 1:11.56.

“Unfortunately, his final placing wasn’t enough to qualify him for the finals,” Sequim coach Linda Moats said.

“He is already taking notes on how to improve next season.”

The state meet will be Friday and Saturday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
