PREP SWIMMING: Port Angeles starts well at district preliminaries

RENTON — Port Angeles earned the top qualifying seeds in the girls swimming and diving 2A West Central District preliminaries.

The Roughriders took first and second in the 100-yard freestyle, with Ashlee Reid finishing in a time of 56.21 seconds and Brooke Sires in 58.97 seconds.

Their teammate Hailey Scott (1:01.49) was fifth and Port Townsend’s Rose Ridder took third with a time of 59.16.

Ashlee Reid also was first in the 100 backstroke (1:01.71), and teammate Jaine Macias was third (1:08.16).

Last year, Macias’ sister Tracie set the district record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.26.

Sires grabbed the top spot in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.31 seconds, followed by Ridder with a 26.41.

Audra Perrizo placed first for Port Angeles in the 500 freestyle (5:52.51), followed by fellow Rider Kylee Reid (5:52.51).

The Riders also nabbed the top spots in two of the three relays, and were second in the third relay event.

The team of Ashlee Reid, Carter Juskevich, Jaine Macias and Perrizo were first in the 200 medley with a time of 1:56.40.

Port Angeles also was first in the 400 freestyle, with Juskevich, Jaine Macias, Perrizo and Ashlee Reid earning a time of 3:56.85.

Port Townsend’s squad of Jayde Richardson, Keira Matkins, Chloe Rogers and Ridder were second (4:10.56).

The Riders and Redskins finished second and third in the 200 freestyle medley.

Port Angeles’ Scott, Megan McKenna, Sires and Kylee Reid finished in 1:52.43, while Port Townsend’s team of Richardson, Matkins, Rogers and Ridder had a time of 1:53.23.

The two relay teams were less than 1.5 seconds behind leader North Kitsap.

Port Angeles also had a two-three finish in the 200 freestyle, with Juskevich finishing second and Jaine Macias taking third.

Juskevich added a third-place showing in the 100 breast stroke.

Sequim’s Dani Barrows moved onto the finals in the 200 individual medley.

The Wolves also qualified in the three medleys.

In the 1-meter diving event, Port Angeles’ Izi Livesay was third in the preliminaries, and teammate Haili Farnam was fourth. The Riders also had the seventh-place finisher, Lydia Cornelson.

Port Townsend had the fifth-, sixth- and 12th-place finishers in Rachel Ramsey, Matkins and Rebecca Ramsey, respectively.

Sequim junior Emily Van Dyken was eighth in the preliminaries.
