FORKS — Forks seniors Javier Contreras and Dimitri Sampson garnered All-Evergreen League first-team defense honors in voting conducted by Evergreen League football coaches.
Contreras was tabbed for his exploits at defensive back, while Sampson was picked for his play at linebacker.
The duo also was picked to the second-team offense, Contreras for his efforts running the Spartans pistol-wing offense at quarterback and Sampson for his hard-charging rushing style at running back.
Senior defensive linemen Miguel Morales was chosen for the second-team defense and earned honorable mention for his play at fullback and as the Forks punter.
Spartans sophomore Jack Dahlgren was named honorable mention for his work on the Forks offensive and defensive lines.
Junior tight end Reece Moody also earned honorable mention for the Spartans.
Undefeated league champion Eatonville (9-0) dominated the teams, with running back George Tomal selected as the Evergreen’s Most Valuable Player, Justin Kaelin and John Warner sharing Defensive MVP honors and coach George Fairhart named the league’s Coach of the Year.
Tomal didn’t lead the Cruisers in rushing yards this season, instead finishing second in that category on his team by totaling 562 yards rushing on 62 carries with eight catches for 153 yards.
He did rack up an Eatonville-high 74 solo tackles and two interceptions on defense.
Montesano senior quarterback Anthony Louthan is the Offensive MVP.
Aberdeen’s Joel Dublanko, a junior who has a handful of NCAA Division I offers, is not one of the six linebackers on the All-League first team.
Instead, he was picked as a second-team linebacker.
Volleyball
Port Townsend 3, Coupeville 1
PORT TOWNSEND — The Redhawks edged the Wolves 25-16, 14-25, 25-19, 25-19.
The win helped Port Townsend earn the Olympic League 1A Division’s second seed to the West Central District Tournament.
Abby McGuire totaled 14 digs, 11 assists, six kills and four aces for Port Townsend.
Teammate Megan Juran had 13 digs, four kills and three aces and Rio Golden tallied nine kills and eight digs for the Redhawks.
Amy Hemsley had seven assists and five digs and Megan Lee was active with 29 digs.
Port Townsend will host Seattle Christian in a loser-out contest at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, with the winner advancing to face Bellevue Christian at Klahowya Secondary School at noon Saturday.
The Redhawks (9-5) coach Nettie Hawkins invites fans to dress in black Thursday.
“We’re going to call this a black out game,” Hawkins said.
“Whomever attends this event is encouraged to wear black.”
