POULSBO — Sequim doubles team of Brandon Payne and Matt Richards and Port Angeles singles player Alex Brown will play at this weekend’s West Central District boys tennis tournament at the Bremerton Athletic Club.
Payne and Richards will be the Olympic League’s second seed after making it to the finals of the league tournament Thursday before falling to Kingston duo Tyler Shuey and Beau Rabedeaux.
In the semifinals, Payne and Richards defeated Ryan Gotchall and Jacob Gotchall of Klahowya 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
Brown will be the Olympic League’s No. 3 singles player.
He lost to Matt Cragg of North Kitsap in the semifinals and then beat Bremerton’s Tim Styrlund 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the third-place match.
Port Angeles’ other three players, Nick Fritschler and the doubles team of Micah Needham and Jace Bohman were eliminated in close matches in the fourth round of the league tournament.
Sequim’s Victor Lam knocked Fritschler out of the tournament. Lam placed fifth at the league tournament.

Olympic 5, Port Townsend 0
PORT TOWNSEND — The Redskins ended their season with a loss to the Trojans at Memorial Field.
“After celebrating the contribution of our seven seniors and watching them begin their last high school soccer game, we were wondering how they would react,” Port Townsend coach Colin Foden said following Thursday’s game.
“They came out with vigor and skill, and for 21 minutes kept Olympic scoreless and created chances of their own.
“An inexplicable 15 minutes followed in which four goals were leaked and the game was out of reach.”
The resilient Redskins kept challenging Olympic, and set up leading scorer Jewel Johnson for some shot attempts she normally would convert.
“A very late goal prevented a second-half shutout, but nobody can deny the improvement in the team in areas of teamwork and support, passing combinations, tackling, aggression and sheer hard work,” Foden said.
Port Townsend bids farewell to seniors Anne Meek, Rebecca Stewart, Lily Murock, Rose Gitelman, Natalee Taylor, Johnson and exchange student Pi Siripong.
The Redskins conclude their season with an 0-16 record, but have shown improvement despite being plagued by injuries.
“Scores don’t count for everything,” Foden said.
“The team goals were to improve, form a team and enjoy the season.
“Success on all counts.”
Cascade Christian 4, Chimacum 1
CHIMACUM — The Cowboys tied the Cougars at 1-1 on a goal by forward Mechelle Nisbet.
Cascade Christian added a pair of goals before halftime to take a 3-1 lead.
Chimacum only managed one shot on goal after intermission, but held the Cougars to a single goal.
“Although halfbacks Nicole Cerna and Nicola Pieper were a strong offensive force in the midfield, Cascade Christian several times showed great skill at ball handling that pushed them through our defense,” Cowboys coach Debbie Berreth said following Thursday’s game.
“Newest goalkeeper for the Chimacum soccer team Hadlei Garten dealt well against the offensive pressure, with only one goal [allowed] in the second half.”
North Kitsap 3, Port Angeles 1
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders had the misfortune of playing for their postseason lives against the undefeated Vikings at Civic Field on Thursday.
Port Angeles took an early lead when Emma Moseley set up Brittany McBride for a goal in the fifth minute, but North Kitsap responded with three unanswered goals to allay the Riders’ upset hopes.
Port Angeles (5-10) concludes its season tonight on the road against rival Sequim (3-12).
The Wolves are coming off a 3-0 loss to Bremerton.
