SEQUIM — The Sequim volleyball team beat Port Angeles in three sets to claim second place in the Olympic League.
The Wolves won 25-21, 25-23, 25-15. They haven’t lost a set in their last four matches.
The second-place finish means Sequim (7-1, 10-4) will host the league tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves will open the tournament against the third-place Roughriders (6-2, 8-5). The winner of that match will face the winner of a match between North Kitsap and either Klahowya or Kingston.
The Eagles and Buccaneers face off today for the fourth spot in the league tournament.
Both teams have clinched a spot in next week’s district tournament at Franklin Pierce High School; the league tournament is for seeding.
“We struggled tonight finding our chemistry, and yet the first two games were still close,” Port Angeles coach Christine Halberg said of Monday’s match.
“In game one, we came back after being down 0-7, and came within one point at 20-21 and then 21-22.
“I thought we were going to find our way back in, but a missed serve and another unforced error put Sequim at game point and a kill by Sequim [finished] the match.”
The second set had a similar story.
The Riders trailed 17-9, 22-15 and 24-19 before Kendra Harvey went on a serving run that got Port Angeles within a point before the Wolves finally won the game.
“We struggled offensively and defensively tonight and had to work very hard to put things together,” Halberg said.
“Hopefully we have that out of our system and can go into postseason with a new focus.”
Harvey led the Riders with 16 digs and served 10 for 10.
Maddy Hinrichs served 13/14 with two aces. Brittany Norberg contributed five kills and three blocks, while Holli Williams finished with 10 assists and 15 digs and Emily Johnson had 14 digs and four kills.

SEQUIM — The Wolves finished off the season with a tightly played win over the Roughriders.
McKenzie Bentz scored the game’s only goal.
Sequim finishes the season with a 4-12 records, while Port Angeles had a 5-11 season mark.
