SEQUIM — Sequim senior Melissa Porter filled up the scorebook in leading the Wolves past North Mason 85-35 in an Olympic League girls basketball contest Monday.
Porter was the team’s player of the game, said coach Linsay Rapelje.
“Melissa Porter was all over the court with her tenacious defense,” Rapelje said. “She added three steals, five rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot to her 21 fast-breaking points.”
Rapelje was thrilled with the entire team’s performance.
“What a great team win,” Rapelje said. “Hannah Bates added three assists and three steals to her nine points while Kalli Wiker added four assists, a steal and a block to her 12 points.
“Jolene Vaara was our sixth woman off the bench and a spark. She had five steals, three blocks and five boards and scored seven points.”
Jelissa Julmist scored nine with seven rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block and Rapelje said big sis Jayla Julmist recorded another double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
“Jayla almost had a triple-double with seven assists,” Rapelje said.
Sequim (5-1) hosts Bremerton on Thursday. The game will be streamed on YouTube.com by searching for “Sequim Girls Basketball.”

ILWACO — The Spartans suffered a reversal of fortunes on the road Monday from an earlier 14-point home win over the Fishermen.
“Credit to Ilwaco, I knew they would be ready for us. We handled them pretty good, and I knew they weren’t going to be happy with how they played up here,” coach David Hurn said. “After their game with Raymond last Friday they needed this one to stay in the hunt for a title.”
Forks (6-2) visits Raymond (6-1) tonight. A Spartans’ win would likely create a three-way tie for the Pacific League’s top spot heading to the district tournament.
Forks contained Ilwaco’s Erika Glenn the first time around, limiting the Western Oregon commit to 14 points. But Glenn erupted against the Spartans on Monday.
“Glenn had 35 points, and I got a look at their stats and I think she had 12 steals,” Hurn said. “She’s a great ball player, I just wish she wouldn’t have done that against us.”
The Spartans trailed 32-21 at halftime and Hurn thought his group was still in the game.
But the Fishermen had other plans.
“They just came out ready to put the game away, and we came out flat,” Hurn said. “They hit a couple of 3s right off the bat, got some steals and an And-1, and they got out to a very quick 10-0 run on us to start the quarter.
“We did not value the basketball and we turned it over and were careless with it.”

BREMERTON — The Roughriders swept all four doubles matches and No. 1 singles player Reef Gelder claimed the headline match as Port Angeles improved to 6-1.
“I was really impressed by Reef’s mental toughness today. Bremerton’s No. 1 [Nolan Meyers] got off to a hot start, but Reef showed a lot of poise, and came back to win,” said coach Brian Gundersen.
Port Angeles travels to Poulsbo today to take on the undefeated Vikings.
