SEQUIM — Sequim shook off a slow opening set, improving and scoring on its service game and stepping up the effort defensively in a three-set sweep of Bremerton on Tuesday.
The Wolves won 25-14, 25-12, 25-13 against the Knights.
“We were ahead 15-14 when Kalli [Wiker] started serving,” Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said. “She served 10 points in a row with four aces to finish the game.
“For the rest of the match we were serving tough.”
The Wolves completed 89 percent of their serves and had a season-high 16 aces as a team.
“Kiana Robideau led our offense with nine kills along with McKenna Hastings adding five kills and Wiker earning four,” Webber Heilman said.
Wiker went 26 of 28 on serve with nine aces and added 11 assists from her spot as setter.
Kendall Hastings provided a spark defensively with four stuff blocks as well as Jessica Asselin (nine digs) and Jordan Hegtvedt (seven digs).
“After the first game, we played much better as team,” Webber Heilman said.
Sequim (1-1) visits Olympic (1-1, 2-1) tonight.
Kingston 3, Port Angeles 0
KINGSTON — The Riders showed some spark in a three-set loss 19-25, 16-25, 16-25 to the Buccaneers on Tuesday.
“Port Angeles nearly came back in game one but fell short in the end,” Reynolds said. “Both games two and three were intense. The team did a great job keeping a growth mindset as they worked together to adapt to Kingston’s quick offense.”
Camille Stensgard served 7 of 7 with an ace and added 11 assists.
Sophomores Emi Halberg and Kennedy Bruch each added four kills. Freshman libero Lily Halberg added nine digs.
Sophomore Zoe Smithson had two kills and served 9 of 9.
The Riders (1-1) host Port Townsend in a nonleague match tonight.
The game will be live streamed on the Port Angeles High School YouTube channel.
Quilcene 3, Rainier Christian 0
QUILCENE — The Rangers worked on their serve receive and converting serve receives into attacks in a 25-4, 25-7, 25-8 sweep of Rainier Christian on Tuesday.
“Setting was consistent throughout the game and allowed for many players to hit,” Quilcene coach Joni Crowell said. “Our libero Shelby Love centered both our serve receive and our defense, passing very well throughout the game.
Love had seven perfect serve receives, five digs and served 10 of 12 with eight aces.
“Outstanding serving by Maddie Coffey led to early leads in all three games,” Crowell said.
“Brittney Beukes played strong at the net, hitting many overpasses from the other team. [Our] coverage has continued to improve.”
Coffey served 33 of 33 with 11 aces, five digs and a kill.
Beukes had five kills, eight digs and 15 assists.
Setter Bridget Hitt had 15 assists, eight digs and five kills.
Natalie Coffey served 7 of 8 with two aces, three kills, three digs and six perfect serve receives.
The Rangers (1-0) visit Chief Kitsap tonight.
Klahowya 3, Port Townsend 0
PORT TOWNSEND — The Redhawks were without a key player due to injury in a loss to the Eagles on Tuesday.
“No outstanding stats on a lopsided scoring game,” Port Townsend coach Kim Matthews said.
Senior Izzy Hammett led the Redhawks with two kills, two blocks and two digs.
Sophomore Maya Dow replaced injured middle Tori Minnihan and had a kill.
Maya Wickens added six digs and Nikki Robison, Claudia Garfias and Jenessah Seeber-Goss each had two digs.
Port Townsend (0-1, 0-3) visits Port Angeles tonight.
Clallam Bay splits pair
The Bruins split a pair of contests this week, sweeping the Forks JV and falling in a five-set match to Lake Quinault.
Clallam Bay topped Forks 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 Monday.
The Bruins took the Elks to the limit in Tuesday’s match, falling 25-18, 20-25, 22-25, 25-19, 13-15.
“Young group of girls, new dynamics,” Clallam Bay coach Amanda Maines said. “They are coming together and looking forward to the season.”
Cross Country
Forks boys win
RANDLE — Four Spartans runners finished in the top 20 as the Forks boys won the Fast and Flat 3.1-mile race against nine other schools at Cascade Peaks Campground on Tuesday.
Junior Wesley Camacho led the Spartans with a sixth-place finish in 18 minutes, 4.59 seconds.
Freshman William Perez was seventh in 18:20.2, while classmate Arturo Dominguez was 13th in 18.33.3 and senior Matthew Larson was 19th in 18:50.7.
The Spartan girls didn’t have enough runners to compete in the team competition, but did fare well.
Senior Madelyn Archibald was third with a time of 21:48.3 and junior Karen Ensastegui was sixth in 22.35.59.
