TACOMA — The Sequim soccer girls won the West Central District III 2A Tournament championship by beating North Kitsap 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves have roared back after starting their league season 0-6. They have won nine out of their last 10, including three straight at the district tournament.

White River 1, Port Angeles 0
Port Angeles lost to West Central District No. 1 seed White River 1-0 in a loser-out girls soccer playoff match at Franklin Pierce High School on Thursday.
The Roughriders finished the season with an overall mark of 12-7, missing out on the Class 2A state tournament for the first time in three seasons.
Port Angeles and White River were evenly matched throughout the game, with the Riders having a 12-7 advantage in shots.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair with the ball in the White River defensive end a great deal of the time.
Neither team generated dangerous shots that challenged the goal keepers. The Hornets took over for the first 15 minutes of the second half, but Port Angeles stabilized play and in the 58th minute had their best two shots — Bailee Larson hit a 20-yard, right-footed shot off the crossbar, and then a few minutes later, Delaney Wenzl hit a 30-yard rocket that just missed to the right of the goal.
The Hornets netted the game winner in the 72nd minute when they were able to break down the Riders defense with a wall pass and a low shot past the diving Port Angeles goalie.
“Soccer is a funny sport where you can be the better team throughout the game and have better shots, but the other team can sneak one in and win,” said coach Scott Moseley.
“We had a really successful regular season but didn’t play our best in the district tournament. It was a sad way to go out.”

FIFE — The South Puget Sound League-champion Trojans (9-1) blew out the Roughriders (3-7) in a loser-out, winner-to-state West Central District playoff game Friday.
Derek Bowechop scored the lone Port Angeles touchdown.

Volleyball Seasons end
Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay saw their seasons come to a close recently at the teams respective district and Tri-District tournaments.
The Wolves lost a very hard-fought West Central District III 2A match to River Ridge 3-2 (18-25, 26-24, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12) on Friday, then dug out of a 0-2 hole to beat North Mason 3-2 (21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-9).
On Saturday, the Wolves’ season came to a close with a fairly close 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-22) loss to Steilacoom in an elimination match.
The Wolves finish their season 13-7.
The Spartans (10-7) ended their season with two three-set losses to Kings’ Way Christian and Hoquiam.
The Bruins (13-5) fell 3-0 to Shoreline Christian and 3-0 to Concordia Christian on Thursday.
Neah Bay to state
Neah Bay lost twice Thursday but will head to the Class 1B State Volleyball Tournament as the No. 4 seed out of the Tri-District tournament.
The Red Devils will begin tournament play at the Yakima SunDome on Thursday.
