PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Sequim boys and girls golfers cruise past Kingston

SEQUIM — Sophomore Andrew Vanderberg shot the low round of the day earning medalist honors with a 38 as the Wolves won by 60 strokes over the Buccaneers 162-222.

Blake Wiker and Liam Payne tied for second for Sequim with rounds of 41.

“This was Liam’s low round of the year and he is gearing up for a strong postseason showing,” Wolves coach Bill Shea said.

“Freshman Garrett Hoesel also had a low tournament round of 48.”

Sequim (8-0) has a busy week ahead. The Wolves will host rival Port Angeles in the final Olympic League regular season match on Tuesday, then try for its third consecutive win in the Tim Higgins Memorial Invite at Kitsap Country Club before playing in Port Angeles’ Duke Streeter Invitational at Peninsula Golf Club on Friday.

SEQUIM — Sarah Shea shot a 2-over-par 38 on the front nine at Cedars at Dungeness to earn medalist honors for the unbeaten Wolves (8-0).

And according to Sequim coach Garrett Smithson, Shea’s round could have been even better.

“She had four putts lip out,” Smithson said. “They could have just as easily gone in. She hit the ball as good as I’ve seen her hit it all year. If the putts fall, she is easily 2-or 3-under.”

Smithson said freshman Jessica German shot her career-best round by four shots. German posted a 57, Samantha Smith a 52 and Maddie Uranga a 58 to round out the scores for the Wolves.

Sequim hosts Port Angeles on Tuesday.
