SEQUIM — Port Angeles put together a five-run fifth inning and a four-run seventh inning and held down Sequim in the Wolves’ final at-bats to rally for a 10-7 win in the baseball edition of the Rainshadow Rumble rivalry.
“[I] couldn’t be more proud of our group of kids, they battled all game long coming back from two different deficits in the last three innings,” Roughriders coach Karl Myers said.
“The approaches toward the back end of the game were phenomenal. No matter what happened in previous [at-bats] our guys came up locked in and executed their plans.”
Luke Angevine was 3 for 4 with an RBI to lead Port Angeles hitters. Colten McGuffey went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Ethan Flodstrom and Noah McGoff notched RBI singles.
“Luke continued to put the ball in play and maintained a confident approach and continues to produce for us,” Myers said.
“Noah, Ethan and Colton all had some clutch AB’s for us down the stretch and we took advantage of opportunities to get guys on and put pressure on them. There was no quit in our group tonight and it was fun to see them come together and battle for one another.”
Sequim hitters opened up a 4-0 lead after the second inning, chasing McGuffey from the mound.
“Dane [Bradow] did a phenomenal job coming out of the [bull]pen and attacking the zone with multiple pitches and helped swing the momentum back into our dugout,” Myers said.
“Brody [Merritt] did a great job coming in and shutting the door at the end and used the defense to help finish the game off with a 5-4-3 double play from McGoff to [Ben] Basden.”
James Grubb led the Wolves with a 4-4 performance at the plate, including three RBIs and two stolen bases. Gavin Velarde reached base in all four plate appearances, going 3 for 3 with a triple and scoring three runs.
Sequim (2-1, 4-2) will look to break its two-game losing streak at home against Kingston today.
Port Angeles (2-0, 3-1) hosts North Mason at 4:15 p.m. at Volunteer Field.

SEQUIM — Nizhoni Wheeler no-hit the Wolves while striking out 14 of a possible 17 batters as the Roughriders romped past their rivals.
“She mixed her fastball, drop curve and changeup beautifully to keep the Sequim players off balance,” Port Angeles coach Randy Steinman said.
“[We] came out strong in the first two innings with 13 runs to secure the win.”
Sierra Robinson had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run for the Riders.
Lauren Lunt went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and 4 RBIs in the win.
Natalie Steinman, Kylee Reid, Ashley Howell, Taylar Clark and Brennan Gray all drove in runs for Port Angeles (3-0, 4-1).
The Riders host North Mason (0-1, 1-1) today.
Sequim (1-2, 2-5) hosts Kingston (0-0, 0-3) today.
