SEQUIM — Port Angeles outlasted Sequim 3-2 in a five-set marathon volleyball match Tuesday evening.
The Roughriders took the opening games before the Wolves roared back to knot the score at 2-games apiece by winning the third and fourth sets. Port Angeles ultimately triumphed 27-25, 25-20, 15-25, 15-25, 15-10.
Riders head coach Jennifer Reynolds said junior defensive specialist Emma Olsen had a criticial service run during the fifth and final game.
[She] came in during the end of game five and closed it out, serving 6 of 6 with an ace,” Reynolds said.
Sophmore outside hitter Kennedy Bruch contributed a huge game all over the floor with 10 kills and 28 digs, while serving 18 of 18 with four aces.
Senior outside hitter McKenzie Musalek had a big game with seven kills and 21 digs for Port Angeles.
Juniors Ava Brenkman and Jaida Wood each added seven kills for the Riders.
Sophomore Zoe Smithson served 15 of 15 with a pair of aces.
Reynolds said junior setter Camille Stensgard set the table with 18 assists, 15 digs and four aces while freshman libero Lily Halberg added a “phenomenal” 29 digs.
Kiana Robideau led the Wolves with 17 kills, 13 perfect passes and 33 digs. She also served 23 of 25 with four aces.
Jordan Hegtvedt was perfect on serve, going 25 for 25 with five aces. She added 19 digs.
Kendall Hastings totaled nine kills and Kalli Wiker served 19 of 19 with four aces and 23 assists.
Sequim (1-6, 1-7) visits Bremerton (0-7, 1-7) tonight.
Port Angeles (4-3, 5-3) hosts Kingston at home tonight. The game will be livestreamed on the Port Angeles High School YouTube channel.
“It is the last game for this season that will be live broadcast on YouTube,” Reynolds said. “Thanks to the amazing teachers, students and community members volunteering their time to make this happen.”
Forks 3, Hoquiam 0
FORKS — The Spartans continued their strong start by staying unbeaten in the Evergreen League with a 25-15, 25-22, 25-21 sweep of the Grizzlies on Tuesday night.
Forks also beat Tenino in a three-game sweep last Thursday and has bolted to a 2-0, 7-1 record entering a game late Wednesday at Montesano.
Chloe Leverington had seven kills and six blocks in Tuesday’s win over Hoquiam.
Jayden Olson added four kills and four aces while Kyra Neel chipped in with four kills and four blocks.
Natalie Lausche had a perfect serve percentage with three aces and a pair of kills.
Rian Peters added four kills and five digs and Myah Rondeau posted nine digs.
Klahowya 3, Port Townsend 0
PORT TOWNSEND — The Redhawks dropped a home match with the Eagles 25-6, 25-15, 25-13.
Port Townsend coach Kim Matthews said the team didn’t put up a ton of individual stats in the defeat.
“Really no outstanding stats in this match with only five total team kills, five aces, 11 digs and no blocks,” Matthews said.
Port Townsend (1-6, 1-7) hosts Coupeville tonight.
Boys Tennis Port Angeles 5, Klahowya 2
SILVERDALE — The Riders traveled to Klahowya to finish a rain-halted match they started against the Eagles earlier this season came away with a match win to run their season record to 9-1.
“Leading the way was No. 1 singles player Wyatt Hall, who won in straight sets,” Port Angeles coach Brian Gundersen said.
The Riders also won the No. 2 singles match and took three of four doubles contests to earn the win.
The second half of the match was canceled due to rain.
