PORT ANGELES — Spring rains felled nearly all the diamond sports on the North Olympic Peninsula Thursday, but Port Angeles softball managed to beat up on Bainbridge from the opening pitch in an 18-1 Olympic League blowout.
Heidi Leitz set the Spartans down 1-2-3 in the first inning, then led off the top of the first with a triple and scored on Lynzee Reid’s bunt single for an early 1-0 lead.
Natalie Robinson followed with a 2-run home run to left and the rout was on. Robinson added a solo home run later in the game.
Leitz added an RBI triple at the plate and also went three innings in the circle, giving up one run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Reid added an inside-the-park home run which brought home three more Roughriders.
She also tossed two clean innings with three strikeouts.
Ava Kimball went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Port Angeles, while Ali Money added an RBI triple.
Mikkiah Stevens had a two-run single, Ava-Anne Sheahan added two hits and an RBI and Lexie Smith and Becca Manson each hit doubles.
Port Angeles (4-0, 8-1) is off for spring break and will visit defending state champion North Kitsap (2-0, 4-0) on April 9.
Boys Soccer East Jefferson 1, Life Christian 0
PORT TOWNSEND — The Rivals and Eagles were knotted in a physical scoreless tie on a rainy night at Memorial Field before East Jefferson’s Edu Martinez was fouled and sent to the penalty spot a little more than 10 minutes from the final whistle.
“Edu Martinez scored a penalty in the 27th minute of the second half,” coach Logan Stegner said. “Their goalkeeper, who was incredibly skilled, saved it and Edu scored off the rebound.
“We lost composure in the second half, we were not connecting as well as we were in the first half. I think the intensity and the nerves were kicking in a little too much. The second half was a physical and emotional half for both teams.”
East Jefferson (3-3-1, 3-5-1) is off for spring break until an April 11 match at Seattle Christian.
Bremerton 2, Sequim 0
BREMERTON — The Knights’ familiarity with a wet turf field and some Wolves’ miscues led to a road loss.
“They were not faster than us by any means they were just able make better touches and pass decisions that worked,” coach Dave Breckenridge said.
“I would love to use that as an excuse [team speed] but Bremerton was able to find the net. Well, one being a [Sequim] hand ball resulting in a penalty kic, but in reality we had a rough night in the rain and on a super slick turf field.”
Sequim (1-4-0) hosts Kingston on April 9.

PORT LUDLOW — Nate Anderson shot a round of 5-over-par 41 and earned match medalist honors for the second straight match for the Rider boys in a win over the Vikings at Port Ludlow Golf Club.
Cale Wentz posted a 44, while Reid Schmidt and Sky Gelder each carded rounds of 44 for Port Angeles.
The Riders will next play at Olympic on April 9.
Port Angeles 209, North Kitsap 211
PORT LUDLOW — Malena Marquez shot her best-ever-round, a 48, to pace the Rider girls to a close win Thursday.
Lauryn Chapman and Claire Osterberg each shot rounds of 53 for Port Angeles and Autumn Wilson-Rowland was next with a 55.
North Kitsap’s Calia Corden shot 41 to earn match medalist honors.
The Riders will next play at Olympic on April 9.
