Redhawks race to victory

PORT TOWNSEND – The Port Townsend boys and girls cross country teams both won in a three-way meet with Klahowya and Kingston.

The Redhawks boys with four top-1o finishes tallied 37 points, to 39 for Klahowya and 48 for Kingston. The girls also had four top-10 finishes and won with 32 points to 36 for Klahowya and 53 for Kingston.

Senior Brennan LaBrie was the top runner for the Port Townsend boys in the 2-mile race held at the Port Townsend Golf Club Wednesday, finishing second with a time of 11 minutes, 01 seconds. For the girls, Redhawks junior Anika Avelino came in second with a time of 13:33. The boys’ event was won by Andrew Simon of Kingston at 10:43 and the girls’ race was won by Klahowya’s Holly Rouse at 13:09.

Boys tennis Bremerton 4, Port Angeles 3

PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles lost a close tennis meet to the Bremerton Knights 4–3. Roughriders singles’ players Kenny Soule, Tyler Nickerson and Hayden Woods all won, but Bremerton dominated the doubles’ results.

“It was a learning experience for all involved. A good many of the Roughriders played some of their best tennis of the year,” said coach Gilbert Stockton.

Stockton said the team ball goes to Nickerson, who had outstanding command of all his shots.
