PORT TOWNSEND — Port Angeles pitchers Ethan Flodstrom, Brady Shimko and Andrew Pena combined to throw a perfect game in a 12-0 victory in five innings over Port Townsend at Flint Field.
Flodstrom, Shimko and Pena also combined for a total of 10 strikeouts. Flodstrom struck out five in two innings, Shimko had two strikeouts in two innings and Pena three in two innings. Flodstrom, a freshman, was credited with the win.
“The pitchers did a great job throwing strikes all day long, it was great to see them all pitch with confidence their first times out this season,” said coach Karl Myers.
The game was actually fairly close until the fourth inning, when the Rider bats erupted for a 6-run inning. Luke Angevine went 1-1 with a three-run home run, the first of his career, and he narrowly missed his second home run with a sacrifice fly to the wall for another RBI.
Joel Wood also had two hits for the Riders and an RBI, while Colton McGuffey had a double and an RBI. Anthony Quinones stole two bases.
Port Angeles (2-1, 1-0) is next scheduled to play at 4:15 p.m. today at undefeated Sequim.
It was only Port Townsend’s (0-2) second game of the year and their first game since March 22. The Redhawks are scheduled to play at 4:15 p.m. today at Bremerton, though the forecast calls for rain in Kitsap County.
Boys’ Soccer Sequim 9, Forks 0
PORT ANGELES — The Wolves got a hat trick from Adrian Funston, another two goals from Liam Harris and Michael McAleer and a combined shutout from goalkeepers Navy Thomas-Brenske and Nick Janikic in a 9-0 nonleague win at Peninsula College.
Sequim (3-1-1, 2-1) has now scored 28 goals in five matches.
Funston scored the first of his three goals in the second minute (on a penalty kick), the 22nd minute and the 66th minute. He added an assist on a Harris goal in the 54th minute. Harris’ goal was his second; his first came in the 34th minute in the first half on a free kick from Chris Morgan.
Michael McAleer had two goals (71st and 78th minutes) and an assist, while Christian Rocha had two assists.
Mathew Craig scored a goal (fourth minute) and Konnor Parrish had a goal (60th minute) and an assist.
The Wolves played an important Olympic League 2A Division match against Port Angeles Tuesday night after press deadline. Sequim will next play at Kingston at 6:45 p.m. Friday.
Forks (2-4, 0-0) hosted Elma Tuesday night in the Spartans’ first Evergreen 1A League match. The Spartans are next scheduled to play at home at 6 p.m. Thursday against Tenino.
Boys Golf Sequim 159, Olympic 178
BREMERTON — Freshman Paul Jacobsen’s 1-over-par round of 36 on the front nine at Rolling Hills Golf Cours led a cast of low-scoring Wolves golfers in a win over the Trojans.
Jacobsen tied with Olympic’s C.J. Lagat for medalist honors.
Blake Wiker and Josiah Carter each carded rounds of 40 for Sequim to tie for third overall.
Carter’s round was a career best score.
Andrew van der Berg also shot a 43 for the Wolves.
Unbeaten Sequim (3-0) will host Port Angeles (3-1) on Wednesday, April 12.
