PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles swam past rival Sequim 117-62 in a girls swim meet Thursday at William Shore Memorial Pool.
The Roughriders qualified one relay team, the 400 freestyle, and two individual state times in the meet, along with securing five new individual district qualifying times.
Kiara Schmitt, Maggie Martin, Felicia Che and Nadia teamed for a win in the 400 free with a state time of 4 minutes, .80 seconds.
Cole also had state-meet times in the 50 and 500 free (25.93) and (5:37.81), respectively.
District qualifers for Port Angeles were Maggie Martin, first in the 200 free (2:10.45); Sierra Hunter, fourth in the 100 butterfly (6:13.090; Emma Murray, first in the 100 backstroke (1:10.68) and Adriana McClain, second in the 100 breaststroke (1:23.19).
Felicia Che was a double event winner for the Riders, taking first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:23.62 and the 100 fly (1:03.60).
Port Angeles’ Anne Edwards racked up 155.95 points to win the 1-meter dive.
And the 200 medley relay team of Schmitt, Cole, Che and Murray won in 2:00.32.
For Sequim, Sonja Govertsen won the 50 freestyle in 25.79 seconds. Jasmine Itti won the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:00.05 and the Wolves’ 200 freestyle relay team of Govertsen, Meguire Vandervelde, Itti and Mia Coffman won with a time of 1:49.55.
Girls Soccer North Kitsap 2, Port Angeles 1 OT
POULSBO — Two late goals sunk the Roughriders in a fight for first place with the Vikings.
Port Angeles held a slim 1-0 lead for 73 minutes, allowed a goal just before the end of regulation and lost on a North Kitsap strike in the second OT.
The Riders jumped out to a quick lead in the seventh minute when Kyrsten McGuffey played a perfect pass to Millie Long who beat her defender and sent a well-placed shot past the Viking keeper.
The game see-sawed back and forth with both teams coming close on scoring opportunities.
A shot by Port Angeles freshman Catie Brown glanced off the crossbar, while North Kitsap nearly equalized on a counterattack, only to be stymied by the central duo of Bella Money and Lucah Folden.
“We played a really solid game through the first 60 minutes,” said Riders coach Scott Moseley. “We moved into a more defensive formation over the last seven minutes, but it wasn’t enough.”
The Vikings earned a corner kick with 10 seconds left that was initially saved by goalie Madi Roening, but North Kitsap converted on the loose ball to earn the overtime.
In overtime, both teams were scoreless through the first five minutes, but a long ball sent in by the Vikings wasn’t cleared properly and North Kitsap headed in the game-winning goal.
Port Angeles (3-1-0, 5-2-0) moves to third place in the Olympic League behind league unbeatens Olympic (4-0-0, 6-1-0) and North Kitsap (4-0-0, 4-1-1). The Riders visit fourth-place Bremerton (3-2-0, 3-2-1) on Tuesday.

POULSBO — The undefeated Vikings swept the winless Roughriders 25-11, 25-17, 25-11 in Thursday’s match.
Madison Cooke led Port Angeles with six kills, Aeverie Politika had three and Jaida Wood and Emi Halberg had a pair apiece.
Camille Stensgard had a team-high eight assists, tallied the team’s only ace and led the Riders with four digs.
Emma Olsen and Politika added three digs each. Politika led the team with a 2.05 ratio on 21 passes in serve-receive.
