PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys swim team recorded four new individual district qualifying times and won eight out of 12 events in a 105-74 dual win over Sequim.

Port Angeles swimmers winning their events were:

• 200 freestyle, Cameron Butler, 1 minute, 55.18.

• 200 individual medley, Josh Gavin, 2:17.15.

• 200 medley relay (Alex Hertzog, Butler, Gavin, Taylor Martin), 1:52.30.

• 1-meter diving, Andrew Methner, 173.20 points.

• 100 butterfly, Hertzog, 1:02.34.

• 500 freestyle, Butler, 5:14.18

• 100 backstroke, Martin, 1:01.45

• 400 freestyle relay (Butler, Hertzog, Martin, Gavin), 3:40.28

Sequim swimmers won four events, with Jax Thaxton winning two individual events and contributing to a relay win. They were:

• 50 freestyle, Thaxton, 23.81

• 100 freestyle, Thaxton, 53.70

• 100 breaststroke, William Payne, 1:17.01

• 200 freestyle (Thaxton, Christopher Tadlock, Kaleb Needoba, Alex Berikoff), 1:45.29.

Butler and Gavin’s times in the 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley qualified them for district.

Also qualifying for district was Adam Weller in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.80, good for second place and in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:08.63, good for third.

The Roughriders’ next meet is at Olympic on Thursday. The Wolves will next host North Kitsap on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Boys Wrestling Port Angeles 66, Kingston 15

KINGSTON — The Roughriders beat the Buccaneers to remain undefeated in Olympic League action.

The Roughriders won eight out of 10 matches and then won three other weight classes by forfeit.

All eight of those wins were by pins.

Winning their matches were: Sam Ruede, 113 pounds; Gavin Debore, 138 pounds; Zach Gavin, 145 pounds; Jackson Larson, 152 pounds; Grant Abrams, 160 pounds; Riley Gale, 170 pounds; Trevor Shumway, 182 pounds; and Dom Timperio, 195 pounds.

The Riders will next wrestle at the North Mason Classic Tournament on Saturday.

Boys Basketball Forks 69, Tumwater 58

TUMWATER — The Spartans closed out a close game with a huge fourth quarter to blow defeat Class 2A Tumwater on the road.

Forks trailed 49-45 entering the final frame, but erupted for a 24-point fourth to pull away. Braton Armas scored eight of his 12 points in the fourth to aid Forks’ cause.

“It was awesome to see. We went into the fourth down four and win by 11,” said coach Rick Gooding.

Gooding said the team came together after starter Seth Johnson got in foul trouble in the fourth. “They played really well together. It was great to see,” he said.

The Spartans shot well from outside all night, especially Cort Prose, who led the team with 18 points. “Prose stretched the defense. Armas scored eight in the fourth inside because they were worried about 3-pointers,” Gooding said.

“We stayed true to who we are and good things happened,” Gooding said.

Johnson added 17 points despite his foul trouble.

The Spartans (4-2) will host Chimacum on Tuesday before playing Class 4A Auburn Mountainview, coached by Port Angeles alum Matt Sinnes, in the opening game of the Port Angeles Holiday Tournament on Friday.

Gooding said these tough games will prepare Forks for their Evergreen 1A season, which unlike other leagues, doesn’t begin until January.

“We want to make a big push and test ourselves and play some tough opponents. We want to have to figure things out in the fourth quarter,” he said.
