PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles claimed its 30th consecutive Olympic League 2A Division softball victory in a row after pushing past rival Sequim 8-1.
The Roughriders moved closer to their third straight league title with the win, their sixth consecutive win over their rivals.
But they had to earn this one as the Wolves hung close and trailed just 2-1 midway through the third inning.
“Sequim played solid defense to keep them in the game,” Port Angeles coach Randy Steinman said.
“Isabelle Dennis kept the PA batters off balance early in the game but [we] finally got the bats going and erupted for 14 hits.”
Leadoff batter Sierra Robinson went 3 for 4 with a stolen base, a run and an RBI for the Riders, while Natalie Steinman hit a three-run home run.
Nizhoni Wheeler went 2 for 2 and drove in a pair of runs for Port Angeles and Hope O’Connor had an RBI double and later scored.
Callie Hall struck out three in her 3 1/3 innings pitched for the Riders and Wheeler struck out six and allowed one hit in 3 2/3 innings.
Chloie Sparks, Bobbi Sparks, Adrienne Haggery and Shelby Wells accounted for Sequim’s four hits.
Port Angeles (7-0, 8-1) visits North Mason today.
Sequim (4-4, 6-7) travels to Kingston today for a clash for third place against the Buccaneers (3-3, 3-6).

Klahowya 8, Chimacum 4
SILVERDALE — Three errors by the Cowboys led to four unearned runs for the Eagles in an Olympic League 1A Division loss.
The defeat pulled Chimacum (4-1, 6-3) into a first-place tie with Coupeville (4-1, 13-1) in advance of today’s matchup between the Cowboys and Wolves.
Chimacum managed just five hits against Klahowya (2-3, 5-4).
Lauren Montgomery had a two-run single and Shanya Nisbet added an RBI double for the Cowboys.
The Eagles’ Sarah Greene hit a grand-slam home run in the third inning to do much of the damage for Klahowya.

PORT ANGELES — After being swept by the Wolves in the first installment of the Rainshadow Rumble, the Roughriders rebounded and pushed the Wolves to the limit in an Olympic League match.
Port Angeles received singles wins from Summer Olsen and Hailey Horton, and Audrey Little went back and forth with the Wolves’ Izzy Hugornoit in a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 loss.
Riders coach Stephanie Gochnour named No. 4 doubles duo of Kailey Droz and Madison Saiz as her players of the match after the pair defeated Arlene Law and Amber Dietzman in a supertiebreaker 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 10-3.
