BREMERTON — Port Angeles’ 200-yard medley relay team of Adam Boyd, Alex Che, Henry Shaw and Carter Droz sparked the Roughriders in a 100-67 boys swimming victory over Bremerton on Thursday.
The relay squad won the race with a time of 1 minute, 58.22 seconds.
The Roughriders also took first and second in the 200 freestyle relay. The members of the first-place team were Shaw, Josh Gavin, Alex Hertzog and Josh Krzysiak, while the second-place team was Che, Alvaro Medravilla, Keane McClain and Davis Hueter.
Shaw is a new district qualifier in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.05, Boyd in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.43 and Che in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.61.
The Port Angeles boys next will compete against Kingston at the Sequim YMCA at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. This will be their final regular-season meet before divisionals on Friday.
Sequim 90, Klahowya 59
SEQUIM — The Sequim swim team won three relays and got four individual wins from Kaleb Needoba and Deven Biehler in a Thursday dual against Klahowya.
Sequim won 90-49 over the Eagles, winning eight out of 11 races.
Needoba won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 18.79 seconds and the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.05. Also winning was Biehler in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.74 and the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.88.
Needoba and Biehler were also part of two relay teams that took first. The Wolves’ 200 medley relay team of Needoba, Jesse Bobst, Zen Graham and Biehler won with a time of 1:55.59. The Sequim 400 freestyle relay team of Graham, Miles Tadlock, Jordan Hurdlow and Needoba won with a time of 4:01.99.
The Wolves’ 200 freestyle relay team of Bobst, Will Plasch, Tadlock and Biehler won with the a time of 1:49.25.
Bobst also won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:16.75.
Sequim next swims at North Kitsap on Tuesday in the Wolves’ final regular-season meet of the year. The boys will next swim at divisionals on Friday — the final chance to qualify for the district meet.
Wrestling Port Angeles wins double dual
BELFAIR — Port Angeles wrestlers won a pair of duals at North Mason, crushing Kingston 72-6 and beating North Mason 47-33.
Against Kingston, Seth Mann (170 pounds), Garrett Kays (182 pounds), Jason Kibe (195 pounds), Natalie Johnson (113 pounds), Sequoia Grippo (132 pounds), Adam Borde (138 pounds), Josh Boe (145 pounds), all won with pins.
Zach Gavin (152 pounds), Leslie Worthey (220 pounds), Jaymisson Morrison (285 pounds), Scott Hedin (120 pounds), Raymond Rodriguez (126 pounds) all won by forfeit.
Against North Mason, Mann, Kays, Kibe, Hedin, Boe and Gavin all won with pins, while Borde won with a technical fall.
Mann, Kays, Kibe, Boe and Borde ended up going 2-0 on the day in actuall matches wrestled.
The Riders won seven out of 12 matches against the Bulldogs. Lance Menes (195 pounds) also won in a forfeit.
Port Angeles will next host Bremerton at a home meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Port Townsend, Olympic at Sequim
SEQUIM — Port Townsend split a pair of duals last week, beating Sequim 48-18 and losing to Olympic 49-29.
In the Sequiam-Port Townsend dual, the Wolves’ Isaiah Cowan won with a pin over Port Townsend’s Wes Blue at 195 pounds, coming back from a 12-7 deficit in the third period. Cowan also beat Olympic’s Andrew Baca in the dual with the Trojans.
Travin Oakes of Sequim won with a pin in the Olympic dual and a pin against Port Townsend’s Ike Banks.
For the Redhawks, Logan Massie (145) and Ian Linn-Glasgow (152) won with pins against Sequim. Devon Bennett-Anderson, a freshman , won with a pin at 170 pounds. Kyle Caldwell won at 195 pounds and Troy McKelvey won with a pin at 285 pounds.
In the Olympic dual, Port Townsend’s Massie won again, while Dylan Tracer won at 182 pounds. Wes Blue bounced back with a win at 195 pounds and Caldwell moved up to 220 pounds to win his match.
Sequim also lost to Olympic 72-12 with Oakes and Cowan picking up the Wolves’ two wins in that dual.
Sequim next wrestles at a double dual Thursday at Bremerton with Bremerton and North Mason. Port Townsend next wrestles in Puyallup in a double dual Wednesday with Cascade Christian and Bellevue Christian.
