PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Port Angeles gymnasts sweep to victory

POULSBO — The Port Angeles gymnastics team swept the first six individual spots in the all around competition to earn a 150.5 to 138.45 team triumph in an away meet against North Kitsap at Breidablik Elementary School.

Roughriders senior Maya Wharton finished first in the meet with an all around total of 32.15 points to edge teammate Sydney Miner (30.4).

Wharton won two events, claiming the floor exercise with a score 0f 9.4 and coming out on top on the bars (7.1).

She also finished third in the vault (8.3) and fifth on the balance beam.

Miner won the vault for Port Angeles after receiving a score of 8.5. The junior was right behind Wharton in the floor exercise, finishing second (9.3). Miner also was fourth on the beam (7.38).

Senior Nikaila Price was third all around for the Riders (29.5 points), she finished second on the bars, third in the floor exercise and fifth in the vault.

Juniors Karlie Gochnour (28.0) and Cassidy Tamburro (27.9) were fourth and fifth, respectively, for Port Angeles. Freshman Aiesha LaTourette ended up sixth (27.3).

Sequim freshman Lesae Pfeffer placed fourth in the floor exercise (8.8).

The Riders will compete next at the Class 2A/3A Subregional Gymnastics Meet at Auburn Mountainveiw High School next Thursday.

Girls Basketball Neah Bay 66, Clallam Bay 35

NEAH BAY — The Red Devils made it a clean sweep of the rival Bruins on the season, winning handily in the third and final regular season contest between the two schools.

Neah Bay freshman post Cei’J Gagnon scored 27 points on 12 of 17 shooting, even stepping out to knock down a 3-point basket, to lead all scorers.

Gagnon added nine rebounds and two steals in the win.

Gina McCaulley recorded a double with 14 points, 10 assists and five steals for the Red Devils.

Tristin Johnson scored 12 with six rebounds and three blocks for Neah Bay (7-0, 15-3).

Chelsea Ritter led the Bruins (3-3, 10-5) with nine points.

Clallam Bay hosts Crescent tonight.

Neah Bay will host Crescent on Wednesday.

JOYCE — Senior McKenzie Brannan notched her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds as Crescent earned a 42-32 North Olympic League win over Chief Kitsap Academy on Wednesday.

Alyssa Hutto led the Loggers with 14 points as the senior inched closer to cracking the 100-point mark on the season.

Jasmine O’Neel and Ashara Dodson had eight rebounds apiece for Crescent.

The Loggers collected 19 steals in the game, with Hutto, Cari Belford and Katie Strean all swiping three apiece.

Crescent (2-3, 3-8) visits Clallam Bay (3-3, 10-5) tonight.

BREMERTON — The Roughriders won their sixth Olympic League match of the season to stay in the hunt for a league title.

Match winners for Port Angeles were: Dan Basden, Scott Hedin, Cody Anderson, Cade Flanagan, Ben Basden, Riley Gale, Trevor Shumway, Carson Jackson, Bryce Lauderback and Hayden Wickham.

The Riders (6-1, 7-2) hosted Olympic (6-0, 7-0) for the Olympic League crown late Thursday.
