FORKS — It took a game for Forks to figure things out, but after allowing Clallam Bay to take the opening set, the Spartans rallied and won a nonleague volleyball match 3-1 over the Bruins.
“I cant wait for the girls to find their rhythm and roll with it because when they do they will be a very strong team,” Forks coach Jenn LeDuke said.
Senior Bailey Queen led the Spartans in kills with 11. Sophomore Rian Peters added four kills, two assists and two service aces for Forks and classmate Jayden Olson added a kill and four assists.
Setter Julia Lausche added 10 assists and an ace for the Spartans.
Forks (3-0) visits Sequim for another nonleague match Thursday.
Clallam Bay travels to Mary M. Knight on Friday.
South Kitsap 3, Port Angeles 0
PORT ORCHARD — The Roughriders fell on the road in a nonleague match with Class 4A South Kitsap 25-11, 25-18 and 25-19.
“South Kitsap has a strong offense with tall hitters and blockers,” Port Angeles coach Christine Halberg said. “We had an opportunity to work on some defensive strategies which was really good for us. We had a strong run in game three with scrappy defense and lots of energy. We had some ups and downs throughout, but overall, we finished strong.”
Halberg said Natalie Steinman connected to her setters 17 times for kills and added three of her own.
Aeverie Politika led the Riders in kills with six. Brennan Gray had six digs, a kill and served 8 for 8.
Lainnie Lyamba also was perfect on serve, going 12 for 12, with two aces and four digs.
Michelle Alvarez and Devin Edwards added three kills apiece and Alvarez also had four digs.
Port Angeles (0-1, 0-2) visits Kingston (1-1, 1-2) on Thursday.
Boys Tennis Port Angeles 4, Olympic 3
BREMERTON — Doubles duos carried the day for the Roughriders in a close Olympic League win over the Trojans.
Three Port Angeles duos won their doubles matches, highlighted by a 6-0, 6-0 sweep by the Riders’ Wyatt Hall and Evan Cobb.
“Team ball went to the doubles team of Wyatt Hall and Evan Cobb for an almost flawless display of tennis,” Port Angeles coach Gil Stockton said.
“The doubles team of Milo Whitman and Lucas Jarnigan went three sets and, once again, could have gone either way. The match hinged upon just a few points. It was a great effort by the entire team.”
The Riders (2-1, 2-1) host Klahowya (1-1, 1-1) today.
