CHIMACUM — Carter Cameron continued his strong start to the prep tennis season with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Klahowya’s Evan Gale, but East Jefferson was upended 5-2 by the Eagles at Chimacum High School on Tuesday.
Cameron is 3-1 in singles matches this season.
Reid Martin and Roman Humphrey also teamed for a 7-6, 6-2 win in the No. 1 doubles match for East Jefferson.

FORKS — The Spartans stumbled for the first time this season in a frustrating loss to the Seagulls.
“It was a competitive game for three quarters, and the fourth quarter got away from us,” Forks coach David Hurn said. “Raymond ended up with 17 foul shots in the fourth quarter, and it’s hard to get momentum when you give them all those free looks. We weren’t trying to foul them either. At one point, I asked if there was a triple bonus.”
Hurn said the foul disparity wasn’t why the Spartans lost.
“It changed the trajectory of the game, and I have to do a better job as a coach of not letting that impact us.”
Raymond junior Kyra Gardner, the reigning Pacific League MVP, scored 34 points.
“I think she’s got offers from some [NCAA] D1 schools, Washington State, Portland,” Hurn said. “She’s 6-foot, and she took over on defense.”
Forks also struggled with turnovers.
“Even when we had the lead in the first half, we were still making too many turnovers,” Hurn said.
And Forks had trouble against Raymond’s man-to-man defense after halftime.
“They switched up to man-to-man, and we’ve seen a lot of zone this year, and we were not executing offense like we should have been,” Hurn said. “We have some errors to clean up going forward.”
Keira Johnson and Chloe Leverington each scored 14 points to pace Forks.
The Spartans (3-1) visit Northwest Christian today.

PORT ANGELES — Freshman Ciara Cargo-Acosta and sophomore Kaylen Mason scored 22 and 20 points, respectively, to lead the Loggers past the Roughriders C team.
“Ciara Cargo-Agosta led the fast break for the Crescent Lady Loggers while new addition Kaylen Mason led the team in rebounds and assists,” coach Jonathan Whitehead said. “Kaylen, a sophmore, has worked very well with freshman Ciara and senior point guard Chloe Mandeville since the start of the season. Both Ciara and Kaylen carried a bulk of the load on offense moving the ball well utilizing a fast break.”
Whitehead said his young team, half of which are eighth-graders, stood strong on defense against what he described as a “gritty” Port Angeles squad.

PORT ANGELES — The Loggers had a tough time stopping the Riders inside in the second matchup between the two teams this season.
“We give away size almost every time out, and we are improving our interior defense, but it’s not there yet,” Crescent coach Chris Ferrier said. “The second quarter was our real problem; our defense went away, and we struggled to keep pace.
“The rest of the game was fairly evenly matched. We were down 16 at half and played them even in the second half, which is awesome, because the guys on my team just didn’t quit. I’m asking a lot out of them in this crazy shortened season, and they keep answering the challenge.”
Brendan Bergstrom led Crescent with 18 points.
“Bergstrom was really solid; Brenten Dalton rebounded like a madman; Austin Sage had a good game shooting the ball,” Ferrier said.
Crescent (0-2) hosts Neah Bay on Friday.
