SILVERDALE — The Class 1A Eagles upended the 1B Rangers’ late bid at a rally to take the nonleague contest in extra innings.
Klahowya’s Amber Bumbalough connected on a two-out, two-run home run to tie the game at 5-all in the bottom of the seventh.
The Eagles won it in the eighth on a bloop single with two outs.
“What a game,” Quilcene coach Mark Thompson said.
“We were able to work so many game situations, especially end-game situations, that are hard to replicate in practice. I think we came out of this stronger than we went in.”
The Rangers trailed 3-0 with two outs and nobody on in the top of the sixth when Erin Macedo doubled and later scored on a Katie Bailey single.
Allison Jones then notched an RBI double to pull Quilcene within one run, 3-2.
Pinch runner Kourtney Benek scored on a passed ball to tie the game in the seventh.
The Rangers took the lead on a Megan Weller RBI single, and Macedo brought Weller home for a 5-3 lead heading to the bottom of the inning.
“We overcame our own mistakes, and a dominant performance by Bumbalough, to take the lead against a quality opponent,” Thompson said. “But in the end you have to tip your cap to the opponent; they overcame as well, and won the game. They earned it, but we made them earn it.”
The Rangers (2-0, 4-1) host Tacoma Baptist on Friday.
