PORT ANGELES — Coach Christine Halberg said the Roughriders played well for most of their 26-24, 17-25, 25-17, 25-12 loss to the Trojans.
“Our passing improved and we played with a ton of energy and intensity in the first three sets,” Halberg said of Thursday’s game.
“We were down 23-11 in Game 1, and Alyssa Sweet went back to serve for 12 points in row to go ahead 24-23.
“Unfortunately, we made two hitting errors in the end that ended the match.”
The Riders rallied for a 25-17 win in the second game but couldn’t keep the run of strong play going.
“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to sustain that momentum the next two sets,” Halberg said.
“Also, Olympic’s outside hitter came alive, [and] that made things a bit tougher.”
Kiana Robideau led the team with nine kills, 13 digs and three aces.
Brennan Gray tallied five aces to lead Port Angles, along with 10 digs. Gray also improved her serve-receive passing to 1.95.
Setter Callie Hall had 25 assists and Sweet had a kill, four aces and six digs.
Emily Johnson recorded five kills, nine digs and an ace, and Genna Orr added seven kills, an ace and a block.

BREMERTON — The Roughriders allowed the Trojans to score goals at the 11-minute mark of each half in a road loss.
“Although we were outshot 21-6, I thought we had our best defensive effort,” Port Angeles coach Scott Moseley said following Thursday’s game.
Goalkeeper Madelyn Wenzel turned back 15 shots on goal.
Center back Madison St. George also earned recognition for her work defensively.
“Madison had another solid game in back,” Moseley said.
“She does a great job of cleaning up loose balls and organizing the defense.”
Offensively, the best chances for the Riders came on through-balls to Sierra Robinson.
But all three opportunities were gobbled up by Olympic’s goalkeeper before a shot could be taken.
Moseley also singled out midfielders Leah Haworth and Maddie Boe for their transition play.

Murdach named goalkeeper Claire Henninger as her defensive player of the game.
“She had some big-time saves and led the team from the back of the field,”
Murdach said.
Murdach also liked Aylee Bennett’s play on offense.
“She played up top for us with a super-high work rate and forced their defense to make quite a few errors,” Murdach said.
