YAKIMA — Quilcene is guaranteed its best-ever state volleyball finish after defeating Odessa-Harrington at the Class 1B state tournament at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
The Rangers won in four sets 25-22, 25-16, 18-25, 25-13.
Quilcene opened the tournament with a dominating win over Lake Quinault Friday morning in three quick sets 25-10, 25-17, 25-8.
Then the Rangers ran into their nemesis, SeaTac League foe Christian Faith.
For the third time this season, the Eagles beat Quilcene in three sets 25-13, 25-9, 25-12.
The Rangers then got past Odessa-Harrington to advance to the fifth-place game.
Last year, Quilcene placed eighth at state.
Meanwhile, Neah Bay fell one win short of earning a state trophy.
The Red Devils followed a three-set loss to Sunnyside Christian on Friday morning with a three-set sweep of Three Rivers Christian 25-13, 25-19, 25-23 on Friday afternoon.
But Neah Bay was knocked out Saturday morning by Riverside Christian 25-23, 25-20, 25-16.

Macias tops list of area finalists
FEDERAL WAY — Port Angeles sophomore Jaine Macias placed third in the 200-yard individual medley and fourth in the 100 breaststroke at the Class 2A state preliminaries Friday at King County Aquatic Center.
The Roughriders’ 200 medley relay team of Taylor Beebe, Carter Juskevich, Macias and Audra Perrizo placed fifth in the preliminaries and their 400 freestyle relay team of the same four swimmers took sixth.
Juskevich also was seventh in the 200 freestyle.
Port Townsend’s Rose Ridder moved on to the finals in the 50 freestyle with an eighth-place finish and in the 1-meter dive with an 11th-place showing.
