PREP SPORTS: Quilcene girls basketball routs Oakville; Port Angeles wrestlers win at Kelso invite

QUILCENE — Quilcene blew out the Oakville Acorns for the second time this season in nonleague girls basketball action.

Allison Jones made four 3-pointers and scored 26 points in the Rangers’ 62-30 win. Jones, a sophomore, also had five assists.

Junior guard Megan Weller added 20 points for Quilcene to go along with five assists, five rebounds and two steals.

Katie Love added six points, 11 rebounds and four steals, and Sammy Rae finished with seven rebounds, four assists and four points.

The Rangers’ entire roster had significant playing time and combined to shoot 43 percent from the field and 86 percent from the free-throw line. They also racked up 22 assists and 13 steals.

“It was a great team effort,” Quilcene coach Briana Weller said.

“It is really neat to be able to sit back and watch the girls work together as a unit . . . it is truly beautiful.

“I am so very, very proud of these girls and how far they have come in the last three seasons.”

Wrestling

Port Angeles wins Kelso tourney

KELSO — The Roughriders won the nine-team Dave Holter Invitational at Kelso High School by edging the hosts 198.5-180.5.

Twelve of the Port Angeles’ 13 wrestlers placed in the top six of their brackets, and all 13 won at least one match.

Leading the way for the Riders were eight finalists and four champions, including Evan Gallacci, who won the Most Outstanding Wrestler award at Saturday’s meet with three pins in the 182-pound division.

Other champions for Port Angeles were Ben Basden (113 pounds), Brady Anderson (126) and heavyweight Roberto Coronel.

Cody Anderson placed second in the 113-pound class. Gavin Crain did likewise at 132 pounds, Matt Robbins at 195 pounds and Kyle La Fritz at 220 pounds.

Sam Burton took fourth at 138 pounds for Port Angeles, Branden Currie was fifth at 138 pounds, Caleb Joslin sixth at 145, and Richard Hillstrom placed fifth at 170.
