MOUNT VERNON – For the third straight year, Neah Bay came within one score of winning a Class 1B Tri-District boys basketball championship.
The fourth-ranked Red Devils lost to top-ranked Lummi 58-56 at Mount Vernon Christian School on Saturday night.
As the Tri-District’s second seed, Neah Bay will play Three Rivers Christian in regionals.
Earlier in the day, the fourth-ranked Neah Bay girls claimed third at the Tri-District tournament by defeating Mount Vernon Christian 59-48.
Faye Chartraw scored 26 points for the Red Devils and Kaela Tyler contributed 16.
The Neah Bay girls will play Bickleton at regionals.
Boys Swimming and Diving
FEDERAL WAY – Port Angeles senior John Macias earned runner-up finishes in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle Saturday at the Class 2A state championship meet at King County Aquatic Center.
Port Angeles’ 200 medley relay team finished fifth in a tightly contested final.
Macias, Tristin Butler, Jay Liang and Wei-Yan Fu swam that relay, as well as the 400 free relay, in which the Roughriders came in sixth.
Butler also placed 11th in the 500 freestyle and 12th in the 200 individual medley. Liang placed 16th in the latter event.
Fu took 14th in the 100 butterfly.
Sequim’s Eric Prosser closed out his high school career with a 14th-place showing in the 100 backstroke.
In the 1-meter dive, Port Angeles’ Scott Methner placed seventh, Crescent’s Lucas DeFrang was eighth and Sequim freshman Mathew Craig finished 15th.
Port Angeles finished eighth as a team.
