PORT TOWNSEND — Jayde Richardson scored 14 points and grabbed 27 rebounds as the Port Townsend girls basketball team dropped Klahowya 47-30 in Olympic League action.
A 16-6 Redskins third quarter helped break open up a close contest on Tuesday.
Point guard Jewel Johnson scored 14 and Trish Reeves had 10 points for the Redskins (4-9, 7-10), who moved closer to clinching a district play-in game against a Nisqually League opponent.
Port Townsend visits North Kitsap on Friday.

SEQUIM — Trailing 24-21 at halftime to the last-place Bulldogs, Sequim coach Evan Still didn’t have a great deal to say to his team in the locker room.
“[My speech was] pretty short and sweet,” Still said.
“We told them they weren’t playing with enough heart and that we needed to box out a little better.”
His team took that advice to heart in the second half, allowing one North Mason basket in the third, while outscoring the Bulldogs 24-2.
The huge quarter was keyed by 13 points from Caitlin Stofferahn, including three 3-point baskets.
She finished with a game-high 24 points for the Wolves (8-4, 8-8).
“She started 0 for 5 from the floor but had a good drive to get her first basket and realized she needed to attack the hoop and get points that way,” Still said.
“We got her the ball inside, she was aggressive and it opened up from there.”
Alexas Besand had 11 for the Wolves, who travel to face Klahowya on Friday. Sequim is one game ahead of North Kitsap for the Olympic League’s final spot in the district playoffs.

QUILCENE — A poor fourth quarter tripped up the Rangers in this Class 1B Sea-Tac League game.
“Shorthanded and without a deep bench, [we] just ran out of gas in the fourth quarter and couldn’t stay in the game,” Quilcene coach Briana Weller said.
Weller pointed out the team was without point guard Megan Weller, who was sick with the flu.
Quilcene trailed by just one point, 20-19 at halftime, and briefly took the lead in the third quarter, before trailing 33-27 entering the fourth.
Bailey Kieffer led Quilcene with 15 points and added four rebounds and two assists.
Sammy Rae had seven points, 12 rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists for Quilcene (7-9 overall).
Allison Jones chipped in with four points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Rangers.

CHIMACUM — The Cowboys picked up a Nisqually League win at home against the Cruisers.
Chimacum post players Brendon Naylor and Orion Weller led the way for the Cowboys on offense, with Naylor leading all scorers with 16 and Weller adding 12.
John Carthum added eight for the Cowboys.

POULSBO — Port Angeles kept a firm grip on the third Olympic League seed to the Class 2A West Central District Tournament with a road victory over the Vikings.
Derek Schumacher led all scorers with 24 for the Roughriders, while Hayden Gunderson added 23 and Hunter Hathaway tossed in 18 points.
Port Angeles led 37-34 at halftime and extended their lead to 63-52 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Riders (9-4, 11-6) have a half-game lead over fourth-place Olympic (8-4, 10-6), with North Kitsap (6-6, 9-7) and Kingston (6-7, 6-11) on the outside looking in.
The top four Olympic League teams will advance to the district tournament.

SILVERDALE — Cody Russell’s 21 points and a big performance from junior guard Chris Adkins lifted the Redskins to the road win.
Adkins pitched in 14 points for Port Townsend (4-9, 6-10).
Skyler Coppenrath and Paul Spaltenstein each scored 11 for the Redskins.

SEQUIM — Another slow start and another second-half comeback resulted in a Sequim road win against the Bulldogs.
The Wolves (10-2, 12-4) trailed 21-17 at halftime before breaking through late in the game for the win.
Sequim’s leading scorer, Alex Barry, scored 12 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Wolves held off North Mason’s (1-12, 4-13) upset bid. Erik Christensen had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Wolves.
Sequim hosts Klahowya on Friday.

RAINIER — Zach Froembling scored 17 of the Mountaineers’ 19 second-quarter points en route to a game-high 25 points.
“He’s the best player, at least the best shooter, in the league,” Forks coach Rick Gooding.
With two Evergreen 1A League games left, the Spartans (2-9, 4-13) need at least one win to lock down a district play-in game.
Forks hosts Montesano (4-4, 9-7) on Friday and Tenino (1-8, 4-10) on Tuesday.
“We need these last two games,” Gooding said.
Colton Raben, who was limited by illness, led the Spartans with six points.
“Even though he was sick, he played hard,” Gooding said.
Leo Gonzales, Dimitri Sampson and Keishaun Ramsey added five each.
