PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend’s boys golf team prevailed by one stroke over rival Chimacum in a tight Olympic League golf contest at Port Townsend Golf Club.
Keegan Khile earned match medalist honors with a 40 for the Redhawks (7-1) in Monday’s match.
The match came down to the final grouping, with Port Townsend’s large lead trimmed due to solid play from the Cowboys’ fifth and sixth varsity players Chris Bainbridge and Marcus Buford.
Bainbridge carded a 41 and Buford shot a 42.
“We had a 14 shot lead going to the last hole, but their five and six had the best rounds of their lives, I guess,” said Port Townsend’s Zack Glover.
Glover recorded a 42 for the Redhawks, while Austin Khile shot a round of 44 and Patrick Morton carded a 46.
Ben Rolland (47) and Noah Falge (58) also competed for Port Townsend.
Jack Hilt and James Porter each fired rounds of 45 for Chimacum (4-1), and teammates Colton Shaw and Drew Yackulic each post scores of 48.
“We had a good chance to get a win at PT, but I’ve got a couple players who have to . . . be a little tougher,” Cowboys coach Mitch Black said.
“I don’t mind one bad hole, everyone has them, but it’s the next mistake and then rolling in their own misery and playing ‘poor me.’ We are better than this score.”
Port Townsend and Chimacum play in the Tim Higgins Memorial at Kitsap Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

Sequim 97, Olympic 96
SEQUIM — The Wolves’ Alex McMenamin fired a 40 and earned 33 Stableford points to earn match medalist honors as Sequim turned back the Trojans by one point in a match at Cedars at Dungeness.
The Wolves (5-0) now lead Olympic (6-1, 7-1) in the Olympic League standings after Monday’s match.
Sydney Balkan recorded a 50 for Sequim, Megan O’Mera shot a 51, and Brianna Kettel and Sarah Shea both totaled scores of 53.
The Wolves host Bremerton on Tuesday.

Port Angeles 10, White River 6
BUCKLEY — The Roughriders picked up an impressive nonleague road victory against the highly-touted Hornets.
“Great game against the league leader in the South Puget Sound League,” Port Angeles coach Randy Steinman said of Monday’s game.
“We jumped on them early with three runs in the first on three key hits from Carly Gouge, Natalie Steinman and Alicia Howell.”
Coach Steinman said White River pitcher Kayla Smith shut the Riders down for the next three innings.
“But then we got the bats going and scored seven runs in the last three innings,” Steinman said.
“Nizhoni [Wheeler] shut the door by striking out the side in the seventh.”
Wheeler totaled 13 strikeouts in her complete-game victory.
Lauren Lunt went 3 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run and Natalie Steinman was 3 for 5 with four RBIs and a run.
Gouge went 2 for 4 with a double and also scored three runs.
Port Angeles (3-0, 8-0) hosts third-place Kingston (2-1, 5-1) on Friday.

QUILCENE — The Rangers overpowered the Eagles in a Sea-Tac League contest.
“Contributions came fom up and down the line up, including a Megan Weller second inning homer and two players with four-hit games; Erin Macedo and Katie Bailey,” Quilcene coach Mark Thompson said.
Weller came through with a big day at the plate despite battling illness.
Sammy Rae contributed with a triple and a double while driving in four runs.
She also struck out eight and gave up only one earned run.
Allison Jones also had a multi-hit game for the Rangers and made her debut on the mound, pitching the sixth inning for Quilcene.
“Offensively our team is playing outstanding,” Thompson said.
“We just need to be a little more focused defensively and on the base paths.”
The Rangers (3-0, 7-1) visit LaConner for a nonleague game today.

POULSBO — The Vikings broke open a close game, exploding for a nine-run sixth inning to take down the Wolves.
Sequim failed to record an out in that sixth inning, with three Wolves pitchers responsible for the nine runs.

KINGSTON — The Cowboys battled back and forth all game with the Buccaneers before falling short in Kingston’s last at-bat.
“We played our best game to date, including our two wins we had” Chimacum coach Andy Lingle said.
“Our kids battled all game, and never gave up when things got tough. We put some hits together and played a solid game. [We] just came up a bit short.”
Logan Shaw was 2 for 5 with two RBIs, and Quinn Dowling had a base hit, two RBIs, a walk and scored a run for the Cowboys (1-2, 2-9).
Chimacum visits top-ranked Klahowya (1-0, 10-0) on Thursday.

Tenino 23, Forks 0
BEAVER — Tenino was forced to make the long drive to Forks to replay a game the Beavers originally won by a score of 18-3 on March 20.
The first contest was invalidated due to an official protest filed by Forks over a balk call that was misinterpreted by the umpire crew.
Tenino exacted righteous revenge on the Spartans for the inconvenience by beating the home team 23-0.
The game was replayed from the point of the contested call in the original game.
At that time the score was 4-0 in favor of the Beavers with Tenino runners at the corners and one out in the top of the second inning.
The Beavers managed to plate two runs in the first makeup frame on Monday and went on a scoring rampage for the next three innings.
Javier Contreras collected Forks’ only hit of the day as Calvin Guzman and Zeb Chamberlain combined to blow away the Spartans offensive efforts.
Contreras also turned an unassisted double play in the game when he snared a line drive and stepped on second base to nab a Beaver base runner and end an inning.
Forks (0-8) will travel to Hoquiam (7-1, 9-2) on Thursday for a game at Olympic Stadium.
