Bremerton 108, Sequim 60

BREMERTON — The Wolves focused on dropping times in their races in their final meet of the season.

Eric Prosser won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 14.96 seconds, dropping two seconds from his previous best.

“He has been trying all season,” Sequim coach Linda Moats said following Friday’s meet.

Prosser also won the 100 back.

Moats also praised Brandon Grow for cutting 11 seconds off his best 200 free time, Adrian Gonzalez for trimming three seconds and breaking the three-minute mark in the 200 free and Matthew Craig, a diver who competed in the 200 free and turned in a time of 3:01.97.

“And he achieved that time while doing open turns not flip turns which are much faster,” Moats said.

“Another shocker: Wendall Lorenzen dropped 33 seconds off his 500 free best time that was achieved just before the Christmas break.

“He hopes to qualify for districts in the 500 free at the league meet [this] week.”

That meet, the last chance to qualify for districts or state, will be held Tuesday at William Shore Memorial Pool in Port Angeles.

Diving events begin at noon, swimming events will follow at 3:30 p.m.

Port Angeles fourth

PUYALLUP — Port Angeles’ Maya Wharton finished eighth in the all-around to lead the Roughriders.

Wharton was sixth on the beam, ninth in the vault and 10th on the bars.

The Riders finished fourth at the meet against three Class 4A teams, including last year’s 4A state champs, Emerald Ridge.

Sydney Miner finished tied for sixth in the vault with Sequim’s Julie Pineau.

“Well, we had a rude awakening when we got to the meet and discovered that they tumble on a wrestling mat instead of a spring floor,” Port Angeles coach Megan Hoover said.

“Our girls made adjustments and powered through. I am a proud coach.”

The Riders will compete at the sub-district meet at Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines on Thursday.
