PORT ANGELES — Carly Gouge was 3 for 3 at the plate with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs to lead the Port Angeles softball team to a 10-0 win over the Eagles in five innings.
Nizhoni Wheeler and Hunter-Anne Coburn combined on the mound to hold Klahowya to one hit.
Wheeler struck out seven and walked one, while Coburn allowed two walks in her two innings pitched.
“[Our] bats came alive as [we] pounded out 12 hits, with four of them for extra bases,” Port Angeles coach Randy Steinman said of Thursday’s win.
Lauren Lunt added a two-run triple in her only at-bat for the Riders, and Jaidyn Larson was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run.
Port Angeles (4-0) opens Olympic League 2A play at Kingston (2-1) on Tuesday.

FORKS — The Spartans dropped a pair of Evergreen League games to the Bulldogs.
Montesano’s Madison Didion no-hit Forks in the first game, striking out 13 batters.
“Our defense was pretty solid the first game, they just had some nice hits,” Spartans coach Avery Ironhill said.
“Megan Choate was able to put the ball in play every time and she scored a lot of runs for Montesano.
“And on our end, we had trouble getting our bats warmed up.”
Ironhill said Forks let the Bulldogs beat them in the second contest.
“Monte got in our heads, for sure,” Ironhill said.
“They were playing the short game and our corners had trouble getting to the ball.
“We made a few errors and couldn’t dig ourselves back from that.”
The Spartans (1-3) visit Rochester for a doubleheader Thursday.
Boys Soccer
North Kitsap 1, Port Angeles 0
POULSBO — The Vikings scored the game’s lone goal off of a corner kick in the 65th minute.
“[We] played with North Kitsap throughout the match,” Roughriders coach Chris Saari said.
“Freshman goalkeeper Keenan Leslie had a solid game, and a great save off a free kick early in the game.”
Saari pointed to strong play in midfield from freshman Ben Schneider as a highlight for Port Angeles in Thursday’s game.
Track and Field
Three area teams at Kingston meet
KINGSTON — Neah Bay senior Faye Chartraw had the best marks in two throwing events at an Olympic League meet at Kingston High School.
Chartraw topped the field in the shot put with a distance of 33 feet, 11 inches, and the discus with an 86-10.
The meet featured two Olympic League 2A teams, Kingston and North Kitsap, and two Olympic League 1A teams, Port Townsend and Coupeville, as well as Class 1B teams Neah Bay and Clallam Bay.
The Red Devils and Bruins were not part of the team competition, so their individual marks were not included in the placings for each event.
Port Townsend’s Shenoa Snyder was the official winner of the shot put with a 29-05.
Snyder’s teammate Sira Wines placed second in the javelin.
The Port Townsend girls also had a pair of third-place showings: Mikayla Hemsley in the 100-meter run and Amelia Grant in the 1,600.
The Port Townsend boys had three winners at Thursday’s meet. Ryan Clarke took first in the 800 (2 minutes, 5.53 seconds), Brennan LaBrie won the 1,600 (4:54.76) and Austin Roemke won the 300-meter hurdles (47.14 seconds).
Zach Wilson came in second in the high jump and Cameron Constantine was the runner-up in the 100 and 200.
The Redhawks also showed well in both of the relays.
Koby Weidner, Isaiah Mason, Wilson and Constantine were second in the 4×100, while Mark Streett, LaBrie, Weidner and Clarke placed third in the 4×400.
1B represents
Chartraw was the only athlete from Neah Bay or Clallam Bay to have the best marks, but the 1B schools did rack up many would-be top-three finishes.
Auston Jimmicum had the second-best boys 300 hurdles time for the Red Devils, while teammate Cameron Buzzell ran the third-best 200.
Clallam Bay’s Atokena Abe would have finished third in the girls 200 and in the long jump.
Justin Messinger threw the third-best boys shot put and Clayton Willis had the third-highest high jump for the Bruins.

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders nearly pulled off the upset against the league-leading Knights.
“Players of the match go to Emily Traughber and Nakita Jones,” said Port Angeles coach Stephanie Gochnour.
“Their match lasted two and a half hours, and they played with determination, consistency and positive sportsmanship.
“Emily and Nakita look forward to the possibility of facing this team again toward the end of the season.”
The Riders (0-2) host Olympic on Monday.
