SEQUIM — Port Angeles’ Micah Needham and Dana Fox claimed individual titles and state berths at the Olympic League Championship at the Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.
Needham shot a seven-over-par 79 to share the boys title with Klahowya’s Matt Phillips.
“He really played well on the front,” Port Angeles coach Mark Mitrovich said of Needham’s one-under-par 36 on the front nine.
“Micah enjoys playing that course and does well out there.”
Fox fired an 82 on Tuesday to claim the girls title for the Riders, four shots ahead of Sequim freshman Alex McMenamin.
The top seven boys and girls advanced straight to the Class 2A state tournament, with the boys set to play Chambers Bay in University Place and the girls at The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway on May 28-29.
Sequim’s Jesse Francis tied with Port Angeles’ Alex Atwell for third place after each shot rounds of 80.
Jack Shea earned the seventh spot state berth for the Wolves by beating teammate Travis Priest and North Mason’s Josh Frederickson in a sudden-death playoff after all three tied at 81.
Golfers who placed between eighth and 18th will have one more shot to reach state at the West Central District tournament next Tuesday at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton.
Priest will be joined at the district meet by a trio of Riders, juniors Austin Peterson (83), Alex Brown (84) and Mason Jackson (86).
“It was a great day for us, we had five advance and I am extremely pleased,” Mitrovich said.
“The Dungeness crew did a fabulous job of hosting the event.”
On the girls side, Fox and McMenamin were the area’s only state qualifiers. For Fox, a senior, it is the fourth state berth of her career.
Sequim’s Brianna Kettel advanced to the district event after shooting a 100 to finish tied for eighth.
Teammate Kailee Price also qualified for districts by defeating Olympic’s Emily Baumgartner in a sudden-death playoff after each shot 113 to finish tied for 17th.
For the Riders, Kate Haworth finished tied for 10th after a round of 102 to make districts and teammate Chloe Brown also advanced after finishing tied for 14th with a 107.

BELFAIR — The Spartans stepped up to knock off the 2A Olympic League Bulldogs 11-2 and 8-1.
Forks had 10 hits in the first game, with Halle Palmer picking up a double.
Hailey Engeseth tossed five strikeouts to pick up the win.
The Spartans sprayed nine singles around the field to take game two.
Sarah Adams struck out three on the mound to earn the win for Forks.
The Spartans have now won four straight games, having also swept a doubleheader with Rainier on Monday.
