PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys soccer team had a rough tune up for the postseason, falling to Bremerton 5-2 on senior night at Civic Field.
The Roughriders (7-9, 19 points), who had already clinched fifth place in the Olympic League, will square off against fourth-place Klahowya (9-7, 29 points) in a loser-out match Saturday at Silverdale Stadium in Bremerton.
The Knights wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard in Wednesday’s game.
They scored in the fifth minute when Michael Brown headed in a long free kick and then again in the 17th minute on another long free kick and header, this time by Spencer Stuart.
“The defense lapsed on defending each of the long free kicks, and the Knights capitalized on [our] mistakes,” Port Angeles coach Chris Saari said.
The Riders answered back in the 28th minute when Jackson May scored on a penalty kick that was created when Lane Levine was fouled in the penalty box.
Port Angeles (7-9, 19 points) had multiple chances to score in the first half but was unable to make them count.
The Riders’ problems were then compounded when the Knights struck early in the second half on another Michael Brown goal, this one coming off a deflected shot in the 43rd minute.
Port Angeles edged to within one goal again in the 45th minute when Jackson May scored on a breakaway that was assisted by Scott Methner.
Bremerton’s Spencer Stuart answered back in the 52nd minute and then Michael Brown earned a hat trick with his third goal in the 80 minute to put the Riders away.
The game had no bearing on the postseason — Port Angeles would finish fifth place regardless of the outcome — but Saari said the Riders’ “overall performance on senior night was disappointing.”
Klahowya finished two games and 10 points ahead of Port Angeles, but the Riders won the two meetings between the teams this season — both by 1-0 scores and both in shootouts.
The winner of Saturday’s game will move on to face first-place Kingston in the Olympic League seeding tournament.
Saari selected May as the offensive player of the match, Vincent Ioffrida as the top defensive player and Yirong Li as the transition player of the match.
Port Angeles won Wednesday’s JV match 2-1.
North Kitsap 3, Sequim 1
POULSBO — The Wolves missed out on tying for first place in the Olympic League by falling to the Vikings.
Instead, Sequim (13-3, 39 points) settles for third place and opens the league seeding tournament on the road Monday.
The Wolves’ opponent? North Kitsap, which is the second seed.
“Same team, same time, same place,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said of Monday’s game.
The loss ends the Wolves’ 12-game winning streak that dated back to March 20.
Sequim and North Kitsap (14-2, 42 points) played a scoreless half Wednesday, but the Vikings notched a pair of quick goals early in the second half to take a 2-0 lead.
The Wolves finally scored on a header by Adrian Espinoza in the 75th minute off a corner kick from Eli Berg.
North Kitsap notched its third goal in the 79th minute to put the game out of reach.
The Vikings out-shot the Wolves 10-9.
Sequim goalkeeper Austin Wagner made six saves.
Boys Golf
Sequim 424, Kingston 510
KINGSTON — The Wolves finished the regular season on a high note, knocking off the Buccaneers at White Horse Golf Club.
Sequim’s Jack Shea shot a 6-over-par 78 to earn medalist honors.
Travis Priest was second for the Wolves with an 83, followed by an 85 from Anthony Pinza.
Alex McCracken had an 87 and Henry Markham a 91.
Sequim will host the Olympic League tournament at Cedars at Dungeness at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Klahowya 425, Port Townsend 443
PORT TOWNSEND —The Olympic League-champion Eagles edged the Redskins at Port Townsend Golf Club.
Port Townsend (4-4) was led by an 83 by Zach Glover, followed by an 87 from Patrick Morton and an 88 from Jack Bishop.
Keegan Khile shot a 90 and Lucas Foster tallied a 95 to round out the Redskins’ scores.
Klahowya’s Aaron Holiday clinched the Olympic League MVP award after earning medalist honors with a 75.
Holliday averaged 38.2 strokes per nine holes, edging Port Angeles junior Alex Atwell’s average of 38.5 per nine holes.
Girls Golf
Kingston 248, Sequim 275
KINGSTON — The Wolves missed out on a chance to share the Olympic League’s regular season championship with the Buccaneers after falling on Kingston’s home course.
Freshman Alex McMenamin was back in action, shooting a 46 to lead Sequim on Wednesday after an injury sidelined her for the Wolves’ loss to Port Angeles last week.
McMenamin has now played enough holes to qualify for All-Olympic League honors, and with a league-low scoring average of 41 per nine holes, she claims the Olympic League MVP award.
She edged out Port Angeles’ Dana Fox by just four-tenths of a stroke for the honor.
Brianna Kettel was next for Sequim with a 53 followed by Megan O’Mera with a 54, Kailee Price with a 58 and Cecilee Wech with a 64.
Aimee Zehrung’s 43 for the Buccaneers earned match medalist honors.
The Wolves will host the Olympic League tournament at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Cascade Christian 9, Chimacum 0
PUYALLUP — The Cowboys’ season ended with their bats managing only two hits and their gloves committing four errors.
The Cougars, meanwhile, racked up 12 runs in nine hits, including two doubles and three RBIs from Robert Tehune.
Cascade Christian’s Michael Messer struck out 12 batters to earn the win.
Weston Johnson and Ari Pape-Uphoff had Chimacum’s two hits, both singles.
Alex Morris took the loss for the Cowboys, giving up eight hits and seven earned runs while striking out three in four innings.
John Carthum relieved Morris and fanned five in two innings.
Chimacum finishes the season with a 2-12 Nisqually League record (2-15 overall).
