PORT ANGELES — In a game with playoff implications, senior Emma Moseley put the Roughriders ahead early, scoring in the fourth minute of Port Angeles’ senior night victory over the Buccaneers.
“I was just in the right spot at the right time,” Moseley said.
“The whole team rallied to play great defense and we really clicked on offense.”
Freshman Sierra Robinson put the Riders up 2-0, taking a pass from junior Maddie Boe and scoring over a diving Kingston keeper.
“That was a nice goal,” Port Angeles coach Scott Moseley said.
“They had a great combination pass, and Sierra finished confidently.”
Scott Moseley said the Riders continued to control play, but Kingston drew within 2-1 after converting a penalty kick in the 30th minute.
The Buccaneers packed players in their defensive box, making it tough for Port Angeles to get clear shots on goal.
Scott Moseley said the Riders did end up with 32 shots overall, a marked improvement on the five shots Port Angeles put up in the first matchup with Kingston.
The second half saw numerous crosses and shots on the Kingston goal, but without result.
Finally, in the 56th minute Emma Moseley split the Buccaneer defense with a pass to Boe, who deftly faked out a defender and finished with a strong right-footed blast, her seventh goal of the season.
Scott Moseley also had high praise for the Riders’ defense.
“Not only did the defense stop multiple counterattacks, they also confidently started our offense,” Moseley said.
“We didn’t just boot it forward, but kept possession.”
With four of the team’s five defenders being seniors, it was fitting that they had such a role in a crucial game.
Port Angeles (6-5, 8-6) stayed in third place with the win.
Moseley said the eight wins are tied for the most wins in the program’s last 14 seasons.
The Riders will visit North Mason on Tuesday in their Olympic League finale, with the winner of that game hosting an Olympic League seeding game Thursday.

CHIMACUM —The Wolves topped the Cowboys on penalty kicks after the two teams ended regulation tied at 0-0.
Chimacum (1-3, 2-10) hosts Port Townsend on Monday.
Klahowya 8, Port Townsend 0
BREMERTON — The Redhawks fell on the road to the Olympic League 1A-leading Eagles.
Lacking Mailia Henderson in goal, Port Townsend was hard-pressed to slow down the Klahowya offensive attack.
“Although both Kaitlyn Meek and Laura Garcia graciously shared the goalkeeping for a half each, they were missed in the outfield and Mailia was missed in goal,” said Redhawks coach Colin Foden.
“Add to that a master class given by the extremely talented Klahowya team and the result was never in doubt.”
Foden was proud of his team.
“To their credit, [the players] battled on without substitutes and against the odds,” Foden said.
“They never gave up trying and can keep their heads high in spite of the result.”

POULSBO — Port Angeles and Sequim each came away with solid results at the Olympic League tournament.
The Riders No. 1 singles player Janson Pederson advanced to district play with a fifth-place match victory against Sequim’s Victor Lam.
Lam will take the sixth spot at districts.
The Port Angeles doubles teams of Tanner Gochnour and Elliott Soelter and Kody Kuch and Matt Hendry placed fourth and fifth, respectively, to clinch spots at districts.
“The PAHS Roughriders represent one third of all players from our league, consisting of eight high schools, going to the district championship,” Riders coach Gil Stockton said.
“We were complimented by the other coaches for the depth of the team.”
Stockton felt it was a good experience for all his players.
“Everyone on the team played their hearts out and all thoroughly enjoyed the tournament experience,” Stockton said.
“All players learned a great deal about themselves and the mental toughness it takes to win in an environment like that. They will all be better players for earning the chance to play. “
Sequim’s Matthew Richards was fourth in singles play and the Sequim doubles team of Jerry Bryan and Eli Berg lost 6-0, 6-2 in the league championship match.
The district tournament is set for Friday and Saturday at the Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center in Bremerton.
