Mount Rainier Lutheran 3, 8

QUILCENE — The Rangers remained unbeaten after taking two from the Hawks.

Eli Harrison recorded 14 strikeouts and allowed just one hit and a walk to earn the win on the mound in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader.

“[The] first game was a pitching battle between Eli Harrison and Mount Rainier Lutheran’s Jacob Purdue who struck out 11 Quilcene batters,” Rangers coach Darrin Dotson said.

Quilcene (3-0, 4-0) put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win.

In the second game, the Rangers’ starting pitcher A.J. Prater helped his own cause, with three doubles, a single a walk and five runs.

Quilcene led 14-0 at the end of the fourth when the team subbed in eighth graders to get some game experience.

“[We] gave up eight runs which allowed Mount Rainier Lutheran players to start a chant of ‘come back,’” Dotson said.

“Prater took the hill again in the sixth and was helped by other veteran players to stabilize a well earned victory.”

The Rangers visit Evergreen Lutheran (0-2, 0-3) on Monday.
