SEQUIM — The Port Angeles boys tennis team showed its depth in beating Sequim 5-2.
The Roughriders, who were playing their third road match in three days, won the No. 2 and 3 singles matches and the No. 2, 3 and four doubles matches.
“I’ve been telling our team all season that our depth was going to be a big strength and today showed that,” Port Angeles coach Brian Gundersen said following Wednesday’s match.
Sequim’s Victor Lam won the No. 1 singles match over Nick Fritschler 6-4, 6-1, and Mathew Richards and Brandon Payne defeated Alex Brown-Jace Bohman 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles match.
The rest, though, was all Riders.
Janson Pederson defeated Eli Berg 6-3, 7-6 in the No. 2 singles match, which earned him player of the match honors from Gunderson.
“Janson is such a steady player for us,” Gunderson said.
“He plays his game, stays patient, and [Wednesday] he won a big match for us.”
In the No. 3 match, Port Angeles’ Elliott Soelter defeated Nick Johnson 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles play, the Riders’ winning teams were Daniel Manwell and Hayden Kays-Erdmann, Tanner Gochnour and Micah Needham and Matt Hendry and Connor Heilman.
With the win, the Riders’ league record is now 4-2 (9-2 overall). They conclude their league schedule today with a home makeup match against Sequim (3-2, 4-5).
The Wolves, meanwhile finish their season on Monday at Olympic (1-4, 2-6).
The Olympic League tournament is Wednesday and Thursday at North Kitsap High School.
Volleyball
Clallam Bay 3, Port Angeles C 1
PORT ANGELES — The Bruins beat the Port Angeles C Team in four sets 25-19, 25-16, 12-25, 25-16.
Clallam Bay coach Kelli Wilson said the Bruins’ passing has improved, which has allowed Inga Erickson to direct the offense.
“Inga’s offensive game was impressive,” Wilson said.
“Of her 26 sets, only two were unsuccessful attempts.”
Clallam Bay junior Sami Metcalf served 14/16 with five aces, and first-year player Kelby Lee had four aces on 10/11 serving.
Freshman Jennica Maines was a perfect 8 for 8 serving.
Molly McCoy contributed six kills and two blocks to the win.
Eatonville 3, Chimacum 1
EATONVILLE — The Cowboys suffered a disappointing loss to the Cruisers on Wednesday.
Chimacum staged a big comeback to take the first set 25-18, but its momentum was halted there as it dropped the next three sets 25-11, 25-19, 25-23.
Megan Dukek set for 22 assists, and had one kill for the Cowboys.
Lauren Thacker added 15 kills, 10 of which were in the first set, and four blocks.
Olivia Baird contributed 14 digs, three kills and two aces.
“The three seniors were strong for us in offense and defense,” Cowboys coach Sally Dankert said.
Chimacum (3-8) play at Bellevue Christian on Monday.
