PREP SPORTS: Port Angeles baseball pounds out 12 hits in win over rival Sequim; other area reports

SEQUIM — The Port Angeles baseball team pounded out 12 hits and rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to drop rival Sequim 9-4

Port Angeles pitcher Jordan Shepherd went the distance to earn the win, scattering seven hits across his seven innings of work, allowing four runs, walking five and striking out four.

He also was 1 for 3 with two RBIs at the plate.

Logan Ciaciuch was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run for the Riders, while teammate Ryan Mudd stroked an RBI double and scored a run.

Larsson Chapman doubled, walked and scored a run for Port Angeles, which scored four unearned runs off two Sequim miscues in the field.

Nick Johnston allowed 10 hits and five earned runs, nine total, striking out five and walking two in his five innings on the mound for the Wolves.

Evan Hurn led Sequim at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a stolen base.

Dylan Lott was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a walk for the Wolves.

It was the fourth straight loss for Sequim (7-6, 9-7), which now sits fifth in the Olympic League standings. The Wolves travel to Olympic (8-5, 9-7) today.

The Riders (5-7, 5-8) are in seventh place and host league-leading North Kitsap (9-3, 10-5) today.

VASHON — The Cowboys went back and forth with Vashon, tying the game at 4-all in the third inning and pulling within 8-7 in the fifth before a four-run Vashon sixth inning put the game away.

Chimacum starting pitcher Lane Dotson was chased after allowing four hits, four runs and two walks in just 2/3 of an inning.

Dotson rebounded at the plate with a two-run double.

Drew Yackulic was 2 for 3 with a walk and a run and Chimacum teammate Myles Hundley walked three times and scored three runs.

Chimacum visits Eatonville today.

AUBURN — Rangers pitcher Sammy Rae threw a five-inning perfect game, striking out all 15 batters she faced in a shellacking of the Kings.

Teammate Megan Weller was 5 for 5 with two triples, a double, four RBIs and five runs.

Emilynn Hitt was 1 for 1 with an RBI for Quilcene (12-1).

The Rangers travel to Evergreen Lutheran today.
