TACOMA — The Neah Bay boys basketball team eclipsed the century mark in a 106-77 road victory against Mount Rainier Lutheran.
The 100-point total is impressive on its own, but more so considering the team was playing its second game in less than 24 hours.
Abraham Venske recorded a double-double with 28 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block for the Red Devils (3-0), who are averaging 92.33 points per game.
Ryan Moss hit on 5 of 10 3-point baskets for Neah Bay and finished with 23 points, five rebounds and two blocks.
Others hitting double figures in scoring for the Red Devils included Chris Martinez with 14, Kenrick Doherty Jr. with 12 and Rwehabura Munyagi Jr. with 10.
Neah Bay will face Chimacum in the Crush in the Slush Tournament at Port Townsend on Friday.

LACEY — The Roughriders hung tight with No. 8 Tumwater for half the game before the Thunderbirds’ height and the fatigue of playing four games in six days caught up to Port Angeles on Saturday.
“Tumwater came out and got on us pretty good early, but we rallied and fought back to cut the lead down to three with 2 minutes to go in the first half,” Riders coach Kasey Ulin said.
“At half time it was a nine-point game, but in the second half their length really gave us problems.”
“I told the kids after the game I was proud of the way we battled and fought for 32 minutes.”
Hunter Hathaway led Port Angeles in scoring and rebounding, achieving a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.
“Hunter played his tail off,” Ulin said.
“He battled and outrebounded kids five to six inches taller than him all night.”
Micki Andrus added 10 for the Riders.
The T-Birds boast a lineup that goes from 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-8, and are led by David Cooper, who recently set the all-time Tumwater scoring record.
Cooper had 21 points.
Port Angeles (1-1, 3-2) is back at it today at the Decatur Holiday Tournament in Federal Way today and Tuesday against Class 4A schools.
“These tough non-league games are great and are going to help us get ready for league play,” Ulin said.

SEQUIM — A late-second quarter letdown by the Wolves allowed the Seahawks to seize control and pick up their second win in as many days against a North Olympic Peninsula opponent.
Anacortes also toppled Port Angeles on Friday night.
Sequim trailed 13-8 after the first quarter but pushed to a 19-17 lead halfway through the second quarter.
But the Seahawks ended the half on a 10-0 run to take control.
Victoria Cummins led the Wolves with 12 points and Elise Beuke added six.
Sequim is off until hosting North Mason on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

NEAH BAY — The Red Devils rolled to a nonleague victory at home against the Eagles.
Tristin Johnson led the Red Devils (2-0) with 15 points, Faye Chartraw had 11 points and eight rebounds and three blocks and Kaela Tyler hadd 11 points, four rebound and three assists in Friday’s game.
Neah Bay will face Chimacum in the Crush in the Slush Tournament at Port Townsend on Friday.

Port Angeles wins Morin tournament
BELLINGHAM — A complete Riders squad topped 12 other schools, many from the Class 3A and 4A ranks to win the 14th annual Graham Morin Tournament Saturday at Squalicum High School.
“For the first time this season, all 14 Roughrider starters were together and for the first time in 10 years a champion other than 4A Snohomish was crowned,” Port Angeles coach Erik Gonzalez said.
The Riders had 12 of their 14 wrestlers in the semifinals and eight finalists including five champions.
Title winners were Tyler Gale at 113 pounds, Ben Basden (120), Brady Anderson (126), Kyle La Fritz (220) and Roberto Colonel (285).
Second-place finishers for Port Angeles were Cody Anderson (113), Evan Gallacci (182) and Matt Robbins (195).
All 14 Riders placed in the top six of their brackets.
Port Angeles will host eight teams in the annual Battle for the Axe on Saturday, Jan. 3.
Gymnastics
Port Angeles fourth
LACEY — The Riders gymnastics team ended up fourth in a meet at the Black Hills Gymnastics Center.
Top finishers for Port Angeles included freshman Cassii Middelstead who placed fifth in the All Around after taking fourth on bars and fifth on the beam.
Elizabeth DeFrang was seventh in the All-Around, after she finished seventh in the floor exercise and eighth on the bars and the vault.
Freshman Sydney Miner finished ninth in the all-around, after coming in sixth in the vault and eighth in the floor exercise.
Julie Pineau, a Sequim High School student who practices with Port Angeles, took fifth in the vault, sixth in the floor exercise and ninth on the beam.
Sophomore Maya Wharton was sixth on the bars.
