SEQUIM — Kingston spoiled the Sequim boys soccer team’s return from spring break with a 3-0 nonleague victory Monday.
“We didn’t practice during spring break but in fairness, Kingston didn’t either,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said.
It felt a little like winter out there as the Wolves and Buccaneers played on a wet and muddy field on a rainy and cold day.
“It was slick out there,” Brasher said.
Sequim outshot Kingston 13-12 but couldn’t get the ball in the net while the Buccaneers scored three times in the second half.
Cody Sweeney scored two goals for Kingston and assisted on the third score.
“It was a good game and it was about as close as a 3-0 game can be,” Brasher said.
“We played hard but we couldn’t finish our shots. And we had a couple of defensive breakdowns. We’ll play better.”
The Wolves, 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the Olympic League, will travel to Olympic in Silverdale on Wednesday in another nonleague battler.
They will start a seven-game league schedule after that.

Sequim 16, Kingston 0
KINGSTON — Demiree Briones pitched a six-inning five-hit shutout in the Olympic League game Monday.
The Wolves led 6-0 after five innings when they exploded for 10 runs in the sixth to break open the game.
Lea Hopson led at the plate by going 4-for-5 with four RBIs, two doubles and three runs scored while Maddy Zbaraschuk went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs and Briones went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run.
Bailey Rhodefer also had three RBIs as she went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
Alexas Besand had an RBI and went a perfect 3-for-3 with a run while Rylleigh Zbaraschuk was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Baseball
Klahowya 8, Port Townsend 2
PORT TOWNSEND — The Redskins were tied 2-2 with the Eagles through four innings but Klahowya slowly went ahead with six unanswered runs in the final three innings to win the Olympic League game Monday.
Starting pitcher Kyle Kelly fanned six batters in four innings, allowing only two earned runs.
The Port Townsend defense was a little shaky in the rainy conditions but hit the ball well.
Senior Zac Olson had two singles while Devon Courtney and Cody Russell had an RBI each.
The Redskins play today at North Kitsap in Poulsbo and then has the rest of spring break off.
