FORKS — The Forks soccer squad overwhelmed Coupeville in a 9-0 nonleague rout.
With spring break, Coupeville had some players missing and Forks was able to get much of its roster into the game, according to coach Joe Morton.
Seth Johnson, Tony Muro and Juan Flores Contreras all contributed goals during the offensive onslaught.
“We’re starting to find our midseason form,” said coach Joe Morton.
In their past two games, the Spartans have outscored their opponents 16-2.
Forks now gets a week off for spring break. “We could use a break to heal,” Morton said.
The Spartans (3-1-0, 4-2-0) will next play Ilwaco at home at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Ilwaco (0-3-3, 0-3-0) is a new member of the Evergreen 1A/2B Soccer League.

MONTESANO — The Spartans went up against the defending 1A state champions and showed that they can more than hold their own against the elite 1A softball teams in the state.
The Spartans lost to Lakeside (9 Mile Falls) 5-3 in their first game played at Montesano on Monday in a game head coach Dennis Dean said they should have won. Forks came back in the second game and scored eight runs in the first inning to crush the Eagles 14-4.
This year’s Lakeside team has seven juniors and seniors who were part of last year’s state champion squad. Dean said Lakeside is no fluke, having made state 12 straight years and placed at state nine out of those 12 years.
“They’re a legitimate program. They’re good year after year,” he said.
In the opening game, Dean said Forks started off nervous, making three errors in the first inning and five errors for the entire game, allowed four unearned runs.
Rian Peters continued her hot streak at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double. Jayden Olson, Julia Lausche and Myah Rondeau all had doubles.
Britney Dean pitched, allowing five hits and walking just one and giving up a lone earned run. Four unearned runs were her downfall.
In Game Two, the Spartans settled down on defense and at the plate, erupting for eight runs in the first inning to take a huge lead.
Aspen Rondeau went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Peters was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Natalie Lausche was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Chloe Leverington 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Leverington pitched this victory, going the whole game, striking out six and giving up five hits, two walks and three earned runs.
“We can play with these guys,” said Dean. “Now, it’s just a matter of getting to state.”
Just making the state tournament is a huge challenge for the Spartans because they play in arguably the toughest 1A softball league in Washington, with Montesano, Hoquiam and Elma all placing at state the past three years.
The Spartans (1-1, 5-3) get a week off. They next play at Ocosta on Tuesday.
