FORKS — The Forks Spartans struggled to score in their 56-47 loss to Elma in Evergreen League boys basketball action at Forks High School.
Colton Raben led Forks with 18 points and Parker Browning had 17. Cole Baysinger and Marky Adams covered the remainder of the Spartans’ scoring with six points apiece.
“We didn’t have a great offensive game, didn’t make a lot of shots,” Forks coach Rick Gooding said of Tuesday’s game.
“We need to get some more consistent scoring out of guys. A lot of guys just aren’t playing all that confident on offense; they expect Parker and Colton to do everything.”
The Spartans played what Gooding called “one of our better defensive quarters,” holding the Eagles to six points in the second quarter before a buzzer-beater to end the period.
Elma’s 6-foot-8 post Kolton Emerson caused Forks problems all game, scoring from right under the hoop and at the free-throw line on his way to a game-high 24 points.
The Spartans (1-9, 2-11) travel to face league-leading Aberdeen (9-0, 14-1) on Friday.
“They’re one of the better teams in our league, undefeated in league,” Gooding said.
“We want to go down there and compete and try to use this game as a steeping stone.”

FORKS — Pressure defense from Elma forced early turnovers and sunk the Spartans in an Evergreen League game.
“Elma’s press bothered us during the first quarter, and they got most of their points off of steals,” Forks coach Al Scheibner said of Tuesday’s game.
“We need to take better care of the ball.”
Skyler DeMatties led the Spartans with 12 points.
“One good thing is we didn’t allow a made 3-point basket, which was one of the things we focused on since the last time we played Elma,” Scheibner said.
“We are getting better. Just need to play smarter in certain situations.”
Forks (0-10, 2-12) visits Aberdeen (3-6, 6-9) today.
