BEAVER — After Tenino dropped the Forks baseball team 11-1 in game one, darkness descended forcing postponement of the second half of the doubleheader with the score tied 5-5 after five innings.
In the first game, errors got the best of the Spartans, and Tenino was able to use every miscue to its advantage.
Nate Gimlin started for the Spartans, going five innings and allowing only two earned runs with four strikeouts.
Forks’ relievers allowed seven Beavers runs in the final two frames.
Forks was able to strike first in the second game, putting up three runs in the first inning after leadoff hitter Reis Lawson was hit by a pitch.
“We responded well from the first game,” Spartans coach Wayne Daman said.
“We came back and competed, never got down, and responded when adversity hit.”
Starting pitcher Javier Contreras was solid through three innings but allowed three runs in the fourth before getting the hook.
Tenino took a 5-3 lead in the top of fifth inning on a bases-clearing double by Kellen Miller.
Forks answered back in the nearly dark bottom half of that inning when Lawson again was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning, and then was brought home after a two-run homer from catcher Reece Hagen.
Lawson doubled and scored two runs for the Spartans while Hagen was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
Zeb Chamberlain pitched all five innings for Tenino.
The game will be wrapped up at Tenino when Forks visits later in the season.
Earlier in the week, the Spartans fell 15-5 in their league opener to Rochester.
Forks (2-2, 0-2 league) hosts Elma at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Beaver.
Sequim 4, Klahowya 3, 10 innings
SEQUIM — The Wolves rallied in the bottom of the 10th inning to knock off the Eagles.
Nick Johnston picked up the win after relieving Nigel Christian.
Johnston also batted 2 for 5 with two RBIs for Sequim.
Daniel Harker was 1 for 4 with an RBI and James Grubb 1-2 with a run scored.
The Wolves (4-1, 5-1) visit Tyee in SeaTac for a nonleague game Saturday.

CHIMACUM — The Cowboys lost a Nisqually League contest to the Eagles.
Chimacum starting pitcher Lane Dotson was chased after walking six batters and giving up four runs in four innings.
Dotson’s relief, Tracyn Anderson, allowed four hits, hit a batter and gave up six runs in his one inning on the mound as Life Christian broke open what had been a close game.
Alex Morris was 2 for 3 with a run scored for the Cowboys, and Anderson was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Yoshiki Ishiuchi sacrificed home a run for Chimacum (0-6).
The Cowboys are off for spring break then face Klahowya in a nonleague game on Monday, April 7.

BEAVER — The Spartans earned a sweep of the Beavers with Hailey Engeseth winning the first game on the mound and Sarah Adams going five innings in the second game.
Forks (2-0, 3-1) visits Montesano for a doubleheader Tuesday.

SEQUIM — McKenzie Bentz was a home run away from batting for the cycle, going 4 for 5 with a double, a triple and two RBIs to lead the Wolves to the five-inning win.
The Eagles scored the game’s first run, but Sequim countered with 25 straight scores, including home runs from Jordan Bentz, Kaylee Gumm, Melissa Lewis and Alexas Besand.
Lewis earned the victory for the Wolves on the mound, allowing one run on three hits and striking out four.
Sequim (4-0, 6-1) hosts Olympic (1-3, 1-4) on Tuesday, April 8.

PORT ANGELES — Carly Gouge gouged the Bulldogs with a 3 for 3 performance at the plate, including two triples and an RBI, to help the Roughriders overwhelm the Bulldogs.
“[We] played errorless ball and racked up 17 hits in a rain-delayed five-inning game,” Port Angeles coach Randy Steinman said.
Haley Gray was 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs and Sarah Steinman was 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Riders.
Alyssa Wetzler was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Alicia Howell was 3 for 3 and Ashlee Reid 2 for 2 with a double for Port Angeles.
Steinman allowed two runs on three hits in her two innings on the mound and Nizhoni Wheeler allowed one hit and one run in three innings pitched.
The Riders (2-0, 2-2) visit North Kitsap (2-1) on Tuesday, April 8.
Boys Soccer
Kingston 3, Port Angeles 0
KINGSTON — Defensive lapses by the Roughriders and tough defense by the Buccaneers led to Port Angeles’ loss.
“Kingston controlled most of the flow of play in the match, limiting [us] to only a few quality scoring chances,” said Roughriders coach Chris Saari.
The Buccaneers notched their first goal in the 28th minute.
“The first goal came on a 45-yard long-range shot that skipped on the wet field turf,” Saari said.
Alex Newton scored second-half goals for Kingston in the 47th and 64th minutes to put the game out of reach.
Port Angeles (3-3) is on spring break and will host Klahowya on Thursday, April 10.

SEQUIM — The Wolves claimed all three singles matches and the No. 1 doubles match to knock off their rivals.
Port Angeles coach Stephanie Gochnour praised Khaya Elliott and Emily Basden for their doubles performance.
“These two girls came back and rallied after losing the first set. We looked at their first set as a warmup and they knew they needed to get serious and play smart the next set if they were to have a chance at the win,” Gochnour said.
“This doubles team hasn’t played together since last season, but they started their season with a comeback win.”
