PREP SPORTS: Forks boys soccer shows improvement in close loss to Hoquiam; Port Angeles girls tennis falls to Kingston

FORKS — The Forks boys soccer team continued to show improvement in its 1-0 loss to the Hoquiam Grizzlies.

“We played awesome. Really good,” Spartans coach Joe Morton said.

“We finally kept the field spread out, our goalie [Fernando Silva] was outstanding.”

Morton said the field was muddy for Wednesday’s game, which made control and stability difficult.

Hoquiam’s Luke Creviston scored the only goal of the match, heading in a corner kick in the 63rd minute.

“Hugo Lucas played great, Alex Martinez, Julian Ortiz on defense,” Morton said.

“I’m really proud of my guys.”

In the past three games, Forks, which didn’t field a team last season, has seen its goals-allowed fall from four to three and then to one Wednesday. This comes after the Spartans (0-4, 1-5) allowed 21 goals in theirs first three games of the season.

They next play on the road today against Evergreen League-leading Aberdeen (5-0, 5-1).
