JOYCE — The Crescent Loggers opened their renovated gym with an exciting five-set win over the Neah Bay volleyball team.
With the win, Crescent improves to 5-3 on the season and 1-0 in North Olympic League play.
Neah Bay opened with a pair of hard-fought wins, 25-22 and 25-23, to take a two-set advantage.
But the Loggers stormed back, winning the next two by scores of 25-16 and 25-20, before taking the decisive fifth set 15-9.
Crescent’s Teya Williams, who coach Alex Baker designated as the most outstanding player of the match, switched from the libero position to setter and had 18 assists to go along with 7 for 10 serving and an ace.
Jade Blazek served 16 for 19 with six aces, three kills and three tips for points, and Shannon Williams served 21/22 with six aces five blocks, four tips and eight kills.
The Loggers next play Wednesday at Clallam Bay.
Port Angeles 3, Bremerton 0
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders remained undefeated in Olympic League volleyball play with a convincing three-set sweep over the Knights 25-18, 25-10, 25-17.
Maddy Hinrichs had six kills and six digs to go along with 9 for 9 serving with two aces for Port Angeles in Tuesday’s match.
Brittany Norberg served 10/11 with one ace, five kills and three digs.
Bailee Jones had five kills and four digs and served 10/11; Kendra Harvey had eight digs and served 17/19 with five aces; and Holli Williams finished with six assists and three digs.
The Riders (3-0, 5-3) are off until next Tuesday when they play at Kingston (2-1, 4-3).
The Port Angeles JV team beat Bremerton 25-18, 25-12, 25-9.
The C-Team won 25-5, 25-16, 25-19.

Port Angeles 134, Kingston 49
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders achieved individual state and district qualifying times and qualified their third and final relay for state against the Buccaneers at William Shore Memorial Pool.
Port Angeles (5-0, 5-1) also placed first and outscored Kingston in all 12 events.
Ashlee Reid swam the individual state time in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 8.38 second.
Jessica Burke qualified for districts with a time of 1:24.82 in the 100 breaststroke.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Carter Juskevich, Brooke Sires, Audra Perrizo and Reid swam a state time of 1:47.45.
Port Angeles had two double winners: Carter Juskevich in the 200 free (2:06.14) and 100 breast (1:14.66), and Jaine Macias in the 100 butterfly (1:05.60) and 100 backstroke (1:06.94).
Other individual winners were Perrizo (200 individual medley), Sires (50 freestyle), Haili Farnam (1-meter diving), Reid (100 free) and Delanie Critchfield (500 free).
The Riders other relay winners were Kylee Reid, Juskevich, Macias and Perrizo in the 200 medley, and Ashlee Reid, Sires, Perrizo and Macias in the 400 freestyle.
Port Angeles’ next meet is at Port Townsend (4-0) next Wednesday.

Kingston 7, Port Townsend 2
KINGSTON — Jewel Johnson gave the Redskins an early lead with a breakaway goal in the game’s third minute, and nearly made it 2-0 in the 10th minute, but her shot went just wide.
“[We] were equal in the game for the first quarter, and it was close even at half time,” Port Townsend coach Colin Foden said following Tuesday’s game. The halftime score was 2-1 in the Buccaneers’ favor.
“Kingston has a fine team, and chasing their excellent passing caused [our team] to tire. Eventually, the dam broke and in the second half the goals came regularly.”
Foden was satisfied with how his squad defended and managed to create counter-attacking opportunities.
“The whole available squad spent at least some time on the field, and it was good to see such improvement from Pi Siripong, Bethany Goodenough, Rosemaryy D’Andera and Shenoa Snyder,” Foden said.
“Anne Meek, Malia Henderson, Jewel Johnson and Rebecca Stewart will always contend for player of the game, but [this game’s] recognition needs to be given to Brenna Latchford for her tireless play in midfield.”
Port Townsend (0-10) hosts Klahowya (7-3) at Memorial Field on Wednesday, and then plays at Port Angeles (3-7) on Saturday.
Bellevue Christian 10, Chimacum 0
CHIMACUM — The young Cowboys, 15-strong on Tuesday, defended the Vikings well in both halves.
Defenders April Avila and Samantha Raines worked decisively to keep Bellevue Christian’s offense in check in the first half, and the defense maintained its level of play in the second half.
Chimacum coach Debbie Berreth said goalkeeper Kyah McKinley was “a strong playmaker, setting up shots on goal for Mechelle Nisbet, Nicole Cerna and Holly Snider.”
The Cowboys play Wednesday at Seattle Christian.
New prep football poll
Neah Bay remains ranked No. 1 class 1B in the Associated Press football poll released Wednesday.
But the gap between the Red Devils and defending state champion Liberty Christian appears to be closing.
Last week, Neah Bay received 88 points and seven of nine first-place votes, while Liberty Christian garnered the other two first-place votes and 83 points.
In the latest poll, the Red Devils earned five first-place votes and 68 points overall. The Patriots, meanwhile, earned 65 voting points and three first-place votes.
This tighter vote comes after Neah Bay dismantled last week’s No. 3 team, Lummi, 76-32 last week.

Quilcene football game postponed
Quilcene’s homecoming football game with Muckleshoot, slated for Saturday, has been postponed due to a tragedy within the Muckleshoot tribe.
Rachel Givens, a para-educator and middle school basketball coach at Muckleshoot, passed away earlier this week after being struck by a car that did not stop in Sumner on Saturday, according to a report by PDN news partner KOMO news.
“Even thought it’s our homecoming game, certain things take precedent,” Quilcene athletic director Mark Thompson told the PDN on Wednesday.
The football game has been moved to next Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m.
Both teams previously had byes scheduled for next week.
