PREP SPORTS: Chimacum softball tops rival Port Townsend to set up league title showdown; other area reports

PORT TOWNSEND — The Chimacum softball team beat up on rival Port Townsend for the third time this season, topping the Redhawks 14-3 in five innings.

Thursday’s win setups a battle for the Olympic League’s 1A Division title between Chimacum (6-2, 9-7) and Klahowya (6-2, 10-6) on Tuesday in Chimacum.

Taylor Carthum was

3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Cowboys.

Kiersten Snyder was

1 for 3, walking once and driving in three runs, and Mechelle Nisbet was 1 for 3 with a double, a walk and three RBIs.

Bradyn Nelson and Ryley Eldridge each added RBI singles for Chimacum.

Eldridge struck out two and allowed one run on two hits in her three innings pitched.

Nelson gave up two runs on four hits, with a walk and two strikeouts in two innings on the mound.

The winner of Tuesday’s Klahowya-Chimacum game will advance to the double-elimination West Central District tournament on May 23.

The loser of Tuesday’s game must play in a loser-out, winner-to-district game against the Nisqually League runner-up Friday, May 22.

PORT TOWNSEND — Lane Dotson opened the scoring for Chimacum with a three-run home run in the first inning as the Cowboys picked up a win over the rival Redhawks.

“Jonny Rogers pitched a good game, going five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks,” Chimacum coach Andy Lingle said of Thursday’s game.

“The sun was an issue for a couple of those runs.”

The Cowboys spread the hits around, scoring their 12 runs on 12 hits.

“It was a balanced contribution at the plate, with hits up and down the lineup,” Lingle said.

Logan Shaw and Henry Lovekamp each had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs.

Kaleb Collier was 2 for 3 with a run and Peyton Hundley went 2 for 4 with two runs.
