Quilcene 10, Darrington 6

QUILCENE — Every Quilcene starter recorded a hit as the Rangers out-slugged the Class 2B Loggers.

“We certainly got a test today,” Quilcene coach Mark Thompson said of Thursday’s game.

“Darrington is a solid and well-coached team. Our girls responded well to adversity.”

Sammy Rae had the biggest bat of all, going 3 for 4 at the plate with her first two home runs of the year and five RBIs.

Rae’s big day at the plate helped overcome her shaky start on the mound when she allowed four runs on five hits in the first inning.

Rae answered with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning, followed by the first of two triples from Erin Macedo.

Allison Jones then notched the first of her two RBI singles.

Rae hit a three-run homer in the second inning to put Quilcene up for good.

Rae pitched all seven innings for her fourth win on the season, striking out seven.

The Rangers added three insurance runs in the sixth inning after Darrington committed an error off a well-hit ball from Megan Weller.

“Megan hit the ball hard all four times today,” Thompson said. “She was definitely a big contributor.”
